For those who aren't aware or having been living under a rock recently, Viz Media changed from their free streaming to a subscription service called Neon Alley. At first it was a paid service for customers who watched anime online or on PS3 or Xbox 360. Now it's in conjunction with Hulu plus and has quite a few titles such as Nura Rise of The Yokai Clan, Lagrange The Flower of Rin-ne, Death Note, Ranma 1/2 and he list goes on. What are your thoughts on Viz Media's Neon Alley Streaming Service?

Their stuff is free if it's on their site, you do have to sit through commercials like any other free services but meh.

I liked it better when it was a broadcast type service, the ads were relevant to what we're generally interested in. But due to mass complaints about broadcast and not enough cash i would imagine flowing in as well as their lack of titles to show, it died.

Viz Media really is lacking out of the 3 big dubbing companies, after all they're more about the manga than the anime.

Honestly not that great. I got a free trial a year ago and their wasn't much on it. Maybe it has changed since, but since I watch more subs I can find the content elsewhere.

When I used Neon Alley, I thought it was great as it included some great series with the ability to reach shows and movies for a limited time after airing but sadly it didn't get the popularity boost that streaming services get which really led to its downfall. With the move to Hulu it did allow for all its Viz content to stream both subbed and dubbed and reduced the money required to maintain a streaming site but sadly since Neon Alley also streamed Funimation and Aniplex content they had to give up their rights to those shows.
Though the one thing that I really liked about Neon Alley before the downfall was the advertising on the service because it actually advertised products related to the content that you were watching.

I got a trial of Neon Alley prior to it becoming a part of Hulu. However, much like Hulu, it was a paid service inundated with ads. CR and Funi you pay and get no ads. Plus you were limited to last few episodes for on demand. Ranma is great, and the TV-channel-esque live stream was a cool idea. But they fail at offering a reasonable value in the face of their competition.

I hate Hulu Plus, I will never subscribe to them (unless they remove ads from paid members.)
