I think the indian sword whip can be absolutely brutal to anyone within range, including the one holding it.

I think I like Derflinger

I actually like the misericorde. A Dagger used in the Renaissance time, to kill knights who were already on the verge of death. It could also easily go through knights armor in the small gaps, and deliver a killing blow to the heart with its strong piercing. it could also go through the knights helmet and straight into the eyes.

I am more into long knifes and daggers.

Sorry, don't know how to actually post a picture but the links will show a couple of the many I have.

This knife has a blade 13 inches long, and over all length is 18 inches.

Blade is 13 inches, over all length is 22 inches.

These are not expensive knifes, but sure are pretty.

I got curious about how true katanas are made. From reading about the process I think these blades are a lot tougher than we would think.

It is too bad that the process to produce damacus steel was lost. Maybe it will be rediscovered again.

Probably Tsurugi, Double-Edged Broadsword. Such as that of the famous Excalibur. Although I prefer the Gauntlet.

Katanas are objectively shit swords. They just look cool.

I wouldn't go that far.. A katana is practically useless against someone in platemail or with a shield, but Japan didn't exactly have either of those, so it's a fairly moot point. They're good for what they're designed to do: Japan has/had rather low quality steel, which is why the folding technique to remove impurities arose, and they are excellent against a relatively unarmored opponent.

Main problem for a katana is low durability, which is why contact between blades is generally avoided. Most western blades are like the sword equivalent of dump trucks, so smashing them against other blades, shields, or metal armor is less of an issue.

Personally, I like rapiers. Bit fragile, but they can be used to pierce some armor and they're still somewhat capable of slashing against an unarmored opponent.
