I am starting try and step out of my comfort zone a bit and would like to play online games with ... people.. but the last time I had a horrible experience of rude and condescending.

So, I am hoping you guys can help me out and name some games that are fun and a good way to start a group playing weekly/daily.

I like RPG's, MMO's and I am not too picky but first person shooters are not my strong suit

If you can't think of anything that's cool here is my friend code for 3ds so you can come and visit my animal crossing town haha

If you have a PS4, Bloodborne is pretty good and the multiplayer part is pretty impersonal; and they say FFXIV ARR has a nice community.

However, there are always toxic players, no matter which game you play; you just have to ignore them and play with the people that you like.

You could also try 'play by forum' rpgs, as I've noticed there are more mature and nice players there; the pace could be too slow though, and it's more like a text adventure than anything, even with virtual maps.

Yea online gaming has become extremely toxic, FFXIV was ok for a while but after 6 months or so i started seeing the same type of players from wow and all of them.

FFXIV ARR
WoW- Don't recommend it but its there lol
Elder Scrolls Online
Guild Wars 2

I've been out of the game market for a while now so dont know whats on the consoles atm for multiplayer but the ones above me are the mmos.

As Shin said there are lots of browser based rpgs, no idea how good or not they are but always an option, usually freemium though.

If you have a decent Pc you could always run over to steam and see what's there, not a whole lot for macs, unless you run a windows emulation like bootcamp.

Since I'm a big'ol StarWars fan, I'm just gonna suggest you jump on SWTOR (StarWars: The Old Republic) it is a MMO, and it has a very large community.

Now that that's out of the way...

If you're looking for a Anime based MMO...

Mabinogi.

Now, I don't know how the game is doing nowadays, but I must tell you. I had some good times in that game. The combat system is different then most, so is the way classes work. I've not played the game in a LONG time so I can't really go into a lot of detail since this is all off the top of my head.

Then we've got...

Tera Online.
Final Fantasy XIV - Gotta pay for it I believe...
Aura Kingdom
Lucent Hearts
Onigiri
Aion
Rift
DC Universe

Those all are just off the top of my head...So yeah!

@Nishizumi: Too bad to hear that about FFXIV, I'm thinking about getting it later this month.

Sorry, I didn't mean freemium games, I'm talking about games in sites like rpggeek.com, paizo.com, kenzerco.com where you can play games by post; it doesn't cost anything if you find a game master. There are two types of players, Game Masters and Player Characters, game masters run the game and explain the rules, so in 90% of the time, they are free. If you are a game master or hardcore player, you will probably end up buying the rules.

I run games like that all the time, I've played two anime inspired games so far, they were pretty good:

I would really like to run this one, one of these days, but I need to get a bit of free time first, because it's a bit more complicated:

Guild Wars 2 (just don't mess up people's champion trains, especially in Queensdale) and FFXIV: ARR are 2 of the best games with the nicest(-ish) communities. Too many popular games have toxic communities with the obvious ones being LoL, Dota.

Since you've got a 3ds, I'd suggest Rune Factory 3 & 4, as well as the last Harvest Moon that just came out called Story of Seasons.

The mmorpg Arche age has a very nice community I've been playing it for ages and I've never met a person on there that I didn't like.

For 3ds multiplayer, if you don't mind a learning curve that's initially quite steep, I recommend Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate. As the majority of the community (there are always going to be some unfriendly players on any game) tend to be friendly and helpful.

Valkyria Chronicles is my favorite SRPG and I highly recommend it. Setting, art, gameplay is amazing. The challenge is also just right. I think its like $15 used for the PS3 and $6 on steam.

Guild wars 2 is a great mmo. It's a lot more accessible than other MMO's, doesn't have a subscription fee, and often the box price goes on sale.

You should try out Dungeon Fighter Online, a retro MMO game being brought back by Neople. I've only been playing it for a month and a half now, and I must say, I've had a blast playing it. I'd say that it's new player friendly as it helps you with quests to get you going, not as grindy as some games out there. Also, the devs put out events every month to help out new comers and current players.
Just google dfoneople if you want to try it out

I think you may like Final fantasy - a realm reborn, first 30 days is free, there is also a free trial on steam, so if you don't like it you don't pay anything, there's people with cat ears and tails, plus a lot of job / classes and you only need one character to play, also sub price is around 12 -/ to 18 dollars.

there are a lot of free companies on there , most are very friendly and you could find a good community

RIFT - is a free to play mmorpg , but it does have a cash shop. you don't really need to buy any of that stuff but you may feel inclined.

Strife & Dota aren't RPG, but they are free and MOBA, so you may find a community there.

go for final fantasy
