I've never understood where the line is when it comes to "weird" and mental disorder. Is it some quantifiable thing or is it subjective to what someone else sees as "normal". Then again, that's why I'm a mathematician and not a psychologist.....

Mental disorders are very much subject to moral norms of the time. That is why homosexuality or transgenderism were once widely believe to be mental disorders. For the most part in current times, the line is drawn where a certain state causes distress on the individual or those around them.

If you get down to it, currently it isn't widely believed, by psychologists at least, that pedophilia is in itself a mental disorder. It is considered a sexual orientation (because it is persistent over time, often noticed around puberty in the individual, and cannot reliably be changed) until the orientation causes emotional distress or acts on the urges, in which case it is diagnosed as pedophilic disorder. Pedophilia is an orientation. Science has come a long way in being morally neutral on many issues, as it should be, but it still isn't perfect.

Alright, time to catch some flak for that statement.

This anime is actually somewhat educational on this topic.

Only 90 days? Not 15 years to life?

It was a little awkward to read Nova Scotia from the topic on the main page, think 'Oh, this'll be neat', then read the rest of the title.

Wow I can't believe so many people are calling for the death of this guy. The fact is he hasn't hurt anyone yet. And no I'm not defending what he did. The fact is he should receive help. Because we should be rehabilitating people not just punishing them.

I don't condone child porn period. The death sentence for this is way over the top even from the perspective of the first morning of the Somme..The real children in those few photos do represent exploited victims therefore it's not a victimless crime.Incarcerating this individual just represents a 90 day period of time in which he won't interact with society. It does nothing to eliminate the offense. Help is what is needed not incarceration.

Canada is even nice to the criminals with that kind of sentencing.

Joke aside, some people are just disgusting and don't need to exist.

Indeed it is, because this is a misinterpretation. Even though pedophilia is very much like a sexual orientation, it is still considered a disorder.

Nothing wrong with the guy being a lolicon, but when it cross over to reality in such a way... at least he didn't rape a kid, so it could be a lot worse.

In all honesty I can't see how it would not be considered pathological. to have desires you could never justify fulfilling must be a terrible emotional/mental burden.
