The title explains my feelings. I recently signed up for the two week free trial crunchyroll offers and to my dismay have been experiencing severe lag (even on Standard Definition).

This lag has nothing to do with my PC/internet connection. I have looked up all kinds of information that would try and explain why I am experiencing the lag, but my conclusion is it is not on my side. I have no issues with any other streams, only crunchyroll. The stuttering and lag are just unacceptable (especially because i get them on standard def) and not a good indicator for me to pay this website.

Its more than likely that others have felt this way too, and that crunchyroll has lost more than one sub as a result. In the future it may be a good idea for this issue to be looked into.

Thanks for the free trial.

I get that sometimes too when other people are online on my router, or if I'm playing games and stuff. Just hit the pause button for a couple minutes and let it buffer.

it honestly depends on what youre trying to watch. If you are trying to watch one of the more popular shows right when it comes out then everyone suffers from the same issue

Quite a few people have had various streaming issues over the past couple of years.

Sans the DDoS attack, regular slow streaming seems to come and go in waves around here.

I only watch free sd but I have always had lag issues on occasion on this site. Like 90% of the time its fine but sometimes the video will randomly freeze for like 1 or 2 seconds then be fine for the rest of the episode. It definitely messes up the viewing experience though.

All things considered the only video site that doesn't ever stutter (that I have used) is Youtube. Pretty much every other video player has some sort of issue occasionally. IDK its may just be a site thing and have nothing to do with the player and i'm just an idiot.

Crunchyroll freezes and stutters because they don't have the server capacity to support the amount of people that are on at a given time. They cant stream 1080p to everyone and maintain a stable connection.

They could fix this by either purchasing more servers/bandwidth or switching to a different video format that doesn't use as much bandwidth. Like Netflix or Youtube. Example: Flash

These things cost money though so Crunchyroll is probably going to continue to be unreliable.

The problem is most likely a matter of bandwidth limitations between the CDN that CR uses, backbone carries, and consumer ISPs, not a lack of compute capacity.

And CR already does use Flash.
