the most underrated anime I've seen in a while, deep and dark, great artstyle and with a really good message, its on crunchyroll

EF: A tale of two (tale of melodies and tale of memories, both on crunchyroll)
personal choice, really liked the art style and how the stories developed, dark stories of love wrapping up together

I agree that SSY is uber underrated. I mean, even most Otakus don't know about this one :D. But, despite being overall good - I feel like it crunched through the story. Angel Beats was beautifully truncated. But SSY, they literally didn't show really good parts due to time constraints.
. The book just had so much of an intricate plot - and they just needed more seasons to cover everything, but chose to try and show some things, and not others.

Ef was really good. But, it was an outward romances - I typically don't watch those. If it weren't for the surreal, dreamy atmosphere, I would've probably gotten bored before the Chisuru hook came down. I like that they did that though, when people just spoke and spoke, they tried to distract the audience with a surrealistic sky or something like that.

Tokyo Magnitude 8.0 is the only piece of entertainment that has ever properly made me cry. EVER. And I've seen AnoHana, Clannad, Angel Beats and others.

I agree on both of the things you say, yet I feel that regarding EF: the surreal aspects were what made the anime

I'm sure you have heard a lot of my more popular favorites/classics, so I won't say those. Here are 3 from the bottom of the barrel that I absolutely loved, and many people don't seem to know. The descriptions are very watered down, but they give the general preface.

Kamichu - A girl suddenly realizes one day that she became a Shinto Deity. Absolutely adorable and completely innocent anime.

Dennou Coil - As many times as I've asked, I have never found anyone I know who has seen it. One of my favorites of all time. Very psychological. It's about VR glasses tech that has completely integrated itself into society and a group of elementary school kids are are discovering that it is actually having rather adverse effects (killing children for example), but no one believes them.

DNAngel - Probably the better known of the 3, but a great one nonetheless. It's about a boy who turns into a dark-winged angel to seal away art that has gained sentience due to it's age and renown.

I have a list but these are off the top of my head in no specific order.

Kids on the slope, no. 6, natsuyuki rendezvous, slam dunk (90s anime but still great especially if you like sports specifically basketball), denpa onna to seshun otoko, welcome to the nhk ( don't know how popular it is but not many know about it), deadman wonderland.

I have lists on my custom built pc and my old laptop but I can't remember any others at the moment. Berserk the anime movies are pretty good, pretty underrated in my opinion.

It's a wild ride that feels no remorse about mercilessly jumping around in the time lines of the people involved. If you stick with it to the end it all makes sense, and is a great story about a very unusual family.

I wish i saw more love for Uchouten Kazoku (The Eccentric Family) on here. Granted i only happened to find that one by luck of the draw on the random button, it quickly became one of my absolute favorites. Not only is it absolutely gorgeous to look at, but it is also a particularly nice and incredibly thoughtful story with genuine characters. It's not exactly a SOL show, there's plenty of family drama in it, but at its core it really is a feel good show that reflects on relationships between family and friends, and it is incredibly honest with how it portrays itself. A perfectly nice show that i feel anyone who watches it could enjoy.

Also Space Dandy but i suppose it's not everyones cup of tea

Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha, the first series takes a few episodes to get going, so you might want to watch the movie to see if it matches your interests.
