The VN should be translated already as they already have an English version. Steam is just basically another purchasing option. Apparently its not on MangaGamer at the moment as they are currently getting ready to release the full definitive version of the VN. Should be available May 15th on their site or Steam. MangaGamer is who's selling it on Steam btw so they are from the same source. Not sure if they are releasing it in parts or not though.

So I have been playing osu! for like 4 months and I came across the song "Dear You" and today, since I liked the song so much, I finally decided to see if this song came from an anime. I ended up finding the full vocal version not remixed by DJ Genericname and I love the song. Then I see that the song was from this anime. I heard that this anime is pretty intense. Going to try and binge watch it this weekend. Should I be prepared for something great or disappointing? I honestly wanted to watch this because of this song.

If you are going to binge watch it, BE WARNED, that Kira "Higurashi no naku koro ni Kira" is very different than the others Kai, Rei, Kaku. Kira is a fanservice ova series that doesnt really have a connection beyond the characters to the originals.

The main story ends with Kai. Rei was adapted from a fan disc but it still holds a good value to watching it. Rei left me on a satisfied note, However Kira left me clueless because i watched it without knowing what i was getting into.

in short
Higurashi no naku koro ni - Q's
Higurashi no naku koro ni kai - A's
Higurashi no naku koro ni: Nekogoroshi-hen - half fanservice ova ( can fit between original and kai or after kai)
Higurashi no naku koro ni rei - fan disc ova's (ties into main story)
Higurashi no naku koro ni kira - Fanservice
Higurashi no naku koro ni kaku: Outbreak - Awesomeness ova

Watch it. It's amazing. but know that it's confusing, disturbing and violent. in particular, violence against children. Like, real violence And killing.

It's about time. Wasn't the folding of Geneon USA the reason season two never got a R1 release? Also, isn't there a live action movie of "Higurashi"?

About time the anime got licensed! If they manage to pull of a redone dub, I would already be saving up money to buy it, but I'm definitely fine with a plain sub release.

Apparently there were two live action films: One in 2008, another in 2009.

Geneon cancelled DVD sales and distribution at the end of September 2007, and Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai premiered in July 2007. We didn't have simulcasts then, and it wasn't unusual for licenses to not come until well after a series had completed in Japan. Given that, I have my doubts that they had a license to the second series that would have encumbered it.

Does that mean it has a chance of ending up on Crunchyroll?

Dunno if they'll take the time to re-dub it, doubt it to be quite honest. It's not like they dub everything they license to begin with, so it's nigh impossible that they'll waste their resources on dubbing for a show that already has an english dub..

New non-simulcast acquisitions by Sentai typically go to The Anime Network for streaming. One recent exception was Amagi Brilliant Park.

It wouldn't hurt for premium users that want to see it here to hit the official request thread.

It's been years since I watched the first series, but I remember really enjoying it! I can't recall why I never watched the later series. Also, the opening to the first series is still one of my all time favorites!

I actually viewed the first two series out of order. CR had the second series, but Funimation was going to be distributing the first series for Geneon, and was vigilant about sending CR take down requests. I later viewed the first series via DVD rental from Netflix. Oddly enough, I believe viewing in that order may have worked out better (at least for me).

I have a slight preference for the OP to the second series, although that might be first exposure effect at work. It has a rather sad quality to it, especially when you see the lyrics.

EDIT: Figured I should have posted the song I was talking about. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VjNVPO8ff84

2ND EDIT: God Damn I loved every bit of it. Just finished it. I might have to watch it again to get a deeper meaning of the story. Yeah it's pretty confusing in the beginning but holy shit it is so worth it in the end. Anyways, I advise anyone to pick this up if they have not watched it yet. Became one of my favorites really quick. ^ Boo me from 28 days ago. You will see something spectacular!

I say in terms of the music department, the visual novel outrumpts the anime in alot of ways, so maybe consider reading it. Plus the visual novel has more intense/exciting scenes
