So I was checking out the sites of different conventions and most mention about volunteering. Just wondering if anyone have and would like to share their experience or if you would actually do it if you haven't before. For me, it depends on the convention itself. If I've been a few times or if I'm not going with anyone else I might (of course it also depends on what exactly I would be doing). From what I've read they do allow for you to also enjoy your time at the convention as an attendee. I've noticed a few require having meetings a head of time which wouldn't be good for me especially since I like attending cons outside the state I live in (giving me an excuse to really travel lol).

You know, the thought of volunteering this year DID cross my mind. But I can't seem to recall whether I just forgot to look into it sooner, or if the idea of working there instead of running around doing whatever I wanted scared me. lol

I work in customer service at a gas station convenient store and have been for the past 2 years and any more on my plate, especially during an awesome event, would be hard for me to get past. >_>

I would love to simply go to a convention.

Unfortunately I live in a country with a small population of anime fans, so I'll probably go to them when I move back to Canada this year.

I've worked at dealer's booths before but never outright volunteered at a convention to do all the IRT or whatever else. I don't think I'd like the thought of doing actual work when I'm there mostly to have fun. =P

^ I am fangirling hard over your Migi plushie.

No, I would never volunteer. I buy a lot at the charity auctions of the various cons around the country that I attend. That's how I give back.

I volunteered at Comic-Con last year and loved it. The hard part was having to work my regular job and then go to the convention. I couldn't get out of my job fast enough!

In order to volunteer at SDCC you must have had a ticket to at least one day the previous year, register online ahead of time for the CHANCE to be a volunteer, and then wait for volunteer sign-up day to see if you can get in (just like getting tickets to Comic-Con).

After you volunteer for at least one day, you have preferred sign-up the next year. Assignments are about 2 hours long. You can volunteer everyday (except preview night your first year) and everyday you volunteer, you can go to the con the rest of the day after you finish your assingment. You get a standard swag bag like all other attendees and a special tee shirt.

You do have to schedule around your volunteer time, especially if you have specific panels you want to attend. Other than that, its grand!

Did I mention you get in to the con for free?!
