Probably, it's for the best. Get a new hobby or just collect something new to you.

I really don't like when people collect stuff but they never use them, even once. They just sit there collecting dust. Just buy two of each: one for display/stash while the other one for entertainment purposes.

If they want it bad, they can make some arrangements (checking/savings wise).

If oni accidentally rip your jpop girl albums, Aiyu, you're not gonna replace them? >:D

Hey hey now I buy physical albums, and rip it to my phone and computer. Shipping prices kill.

It has been a while since I last posted. A couple of weeks ago a fire gutted my home. All my manga, anime, figures, video games and consoles went up in flames. I had 28 figures of Kuroneko alone. My computers and backups went up in smoke too.
Lucky I had Renter Insurance but I have to supply a list of everything I lost. It will take quite a while to complete. A lot of the items I never will be able to replace. I wasn't even this broken up when my wife left me. How do you deal with it?

Anime > wife.

that's rough, but there will be more anime merch in the future and more things to collect. It's not all over and done with. anime's still around ^^

sorry to hear about your home! ): dealing with that is hard and a pain. Hope everything gets sorted out ^^

There's an obvious silver lining here. Letting go of things is "cleansing". It's like Fight Club said "The things you own end up owning you".
Aside from that, sounds like your insurance may cut a rather decent check soon. Rather than trying to replace everything exactly, reassess your current wants/needs, treat yourself to something you've been coveting.

I wouldn't even know what I'd do if I lost my collections. I'm really nervous about fires and have been since before I actually owned anything of value, to the point where I turn off and unplug electronics and most else if I'm not home. I never leave anything on longer than it needs to be. I'd be really devastated if I actually would lose everything in a fire, but I also have a feeling that if I did I wouldn't even bother continuing to collect or starting over from scratch. It'd probably hollow out a pretty big hole in my soul, and I might even end up with different hobbies after the fact.

Otaku doesn't mean someone who likes anime or japanese culture or manga. It's a derogatory term that is commonly misused in the west. People in japan whom like anime wouldn't refer to themselves as otaku, that would be the equivalent of someone with as-burgers calling themselves retarded. The term refers to someone who leeches off society with no goal or purpose in life.
