Too many people these days are believing that just because they read something on the internet it is automatically true.

I don't know how many times I've posted my opinion on something, and 15-20 people tell me I am wrong and give me a reason why with a link to an article that is completely wrong.

Another thing is people automatically think their opinions are fact, an opinion is only your point-of-view, nothing more until you put proven facts behind it. This is a major reason why we didn't have the knowledge we have now, years ago. People would automatically dismiss what scientist/discoverers would say, just because they have a different opinion/belief on that subject. (Expample: Galileo's works were burned and banned from the Roman Catholic Church due to them being with opposition to their beliefs and being heretical.)

Have you ever been told you were wrong, and actually been right? And did they dismiss it even when you gave proof?
If so post below.

Keep this thread free of insults, no flame war. And this is not a debate.

If there is an article about something which has been posted by a news company or newspaper, then it proabbly is true. It's certainly more reliable than random comments from random people.

I tend to look into multiple sources conservative outlets, liberal outlets, "next to impossible to find some news that actually is just news with out bias" also business websites if it applies.

I'd say there is a difference between researching something and deriving your answer from that apart from coming up with an opinion first and using confirmation bias to attempt to back it up. There's a saying that says smart people believe in strange things because they're very good at defending ideas that weren't very intelligently formed to begin with.

When a person learns of information that contrasts with their beliefs, in brain scans, the emotional parts of their brains light up before the reasoning parts and you all know where this goes.

Books with a bibliography are more true than the internet ex: wikipedia.

But without them, we'd just hold it all back to ourselves.

I try not and get to invested into my own or other people's opinion since I know their not static beliefs and probably will change over time, it's the extreme investment that causes people to be way too reactive when there opinion's are challenged. It just shows the level of maturity, so while we might disagree I have the idea that we might both be wrong overall since I tend to have a very uncertain view on a lot of things which keeps me from getting angry.

I don't know, man, I read an article online about how everything on the internet has to be correct.

But seriously, yeah, it's happened to me quite a lot. It's not really limited to opinion, either - I've been told that I'm wrong on facts, despite having much evidence.

People always try to prove something that they believe in. When scientist have a theory about something, they try to disprove it first. Only when they can no longer disprove a theory, it begins to have validity.
