Are light skinned people treated better?
Posted 5/8/15
What the title says.

I've been told time and time again that white skin privilege is a thing. I won't accept that, but I won't deny it either.

Personally you could be orange or blue for all I care and you're still treated with respect, because you're a person. Skin color has nothing to do with anything for me.

What do you think?

See, you live in NYC, that makes sense. Unfortunately, if you visited Kansas, it wouldn't take long for you to see bigotry still exists.

The thing is it's not necessarily racism this whole thing is about. Just day to day how people treat you. Like not necessarily abuse or outright violence/racism, just daily life is easier.

This is how it was explained to me. I never thought of this beforehand tbh

In the United States, I can say without a doubt that if you are white, you have advantages that poc do not have. I don't think anyone could argue that.

If you're white in Arizona the cops assume you're a law abiding citizen who can do no wrong,
If you're brown they think you're undocumented scum who eats puppies for breakfast.

Depends what you mean by "light skinned" and where you are referring to. In places like America, white people do seem to get better treatment than black people. But if you just mean someone's skin tone, then in general people who are really pale are usually less popular and bullied more than people with a tan.

This is what confuses me too honestly, in regard to the white skin privilege thing. Im white, and have pretty light skin. But there's other races with my skin color too. So I guess anyone with light skin is what I mean.

Well i'm not sure about other places, but in the city i live in england it doesn't seem that good to be pale. White, yes. But pale, no. I'm often mocked and bullied for being "too white".

I know. It really annoys me, but people seem to mock others for the most ridiculous reasons now.
