Just wondering why some of you aren't working. There are jobs out there and I know companies that are hiring like mad, so why aren't you working?

I can understand if you are disabled, or in school, but I swear some people just aren't trying.

Perhaps some people don't live in jobland, where jobs grow on jobtrees?

USA has pretty much reached 'full employment' recent studies are saying, Canada however is still not in the best situation. Eastern Canada still sucks and jobs don't exist in good volume, Western Canada has lost thousands of jobs due to the recent impact to the oil industry. And then there are still lazy people who don't try.. or a student like myself.

Studies from where?

Obama's School of Holy Shit Let's Pull Stuff Out of Our Asses?

I understand that the market is retardley soft right now, but saying that America is "full employment" with almost 100 million people not working is silly.

I would work if I had transportation, and a checking account.

Maybe because you can apply to 100 different places and all of them ignore you?

I don't know if I like the responsibility of getting a job being put all the individual. It's impossible when no one hires you, even when you a college degree in your field, the right experience, and references.

tl;dr- employers have no idea what they are doing anymore.

Age, a few more weeks then i'll be old enough to work.

I plan on getting a summer job, or at least trying to, so I can start contributing back to my family and helping out.

Even if you are in school, you should try to work during breaks, you're going to have to intern whether it's before or after school. Might as well do it while you're still in it. the first step seems to be the hardest, but my city has syep so it was really easy for me to get a job as a teen.

I was a neet for about 3 years and I applied to easily over 100 jobs during that time. Only about 20 ever even contacted me back (most just to say that I wasn't what they were looking for or they were no longer hiring), 4 gave me interviews, and only one was willing to hire me despite my lack of social skills or work experience So it's not as simple as "there are jobs out there, why don't you work"

The news, employment statistics, etc.. is saying 5.4% unemployment rate. From an economics standpoint, they usually say 4-5% unemployment is considered, 'full employment.'

That 100 million number sounds pretty silly, but then again.. these employment statistics have always had a stupid way of deciding whether someone was unemployed or not.

If this is true then I guess this answers the question. The whole world economy is totally messed up. Rising debt, population growth too high, etc.. I don't think there are enough jobs, and there probably won't be until we go through the next depression.
