So my local comic shop was having a "May Manga Madness (with some math...)" sale. The owner picked a punch of manga put it on a shelf, and for any manga on the shelf it was "buy n volumes, get 2n - 1 volumes free". For example, if you buy 5 volumes, you get 9 FOR FREE!!!!! It was pretty much about as good as deals get for manga. Obviously, nothing super popular or new was on sale, but it was still very nice.

I managed to get all 15 volumes of Video Girl Ai, Sexy Voice and Robo in a large format edition, and a full color edition of Fist of the Northstar volume 1. What would have easily been over 200$ of manga, I got for well under 100$!

So anyway, what are some good deals you have gotten on manga, what are some rare manga you managed to find when you were hunting for manga, or what are some interesting manga hunting related stories you might have?

On a side not, are any of the manga I got any good? I am not too familiar with them, but it would have been hard to say no to the good deal I was offered. I heard Video Girl Ai was pretty good...

Best buy for me was going into a local charity shop and doing a double take because The complete .//hack Twilight manga was sitting in the children' s section.

I took it upon myself to buy it and prevent impressionable minds from being influenced! Of course, it's a Tokyopop imprint and I'm a big .//hack fan so >.>;;;; I couldn't help myself.

I got two volumes of X-day (extremely hard to find cause its OOP) for free from some person at an anime club giving them away at high school.

I also bought the entire Sugar Sugar Rune series at Book Off.

Two years ago, I stumbled upon the first volume of the Gosick LN at a random brick and mortar anime store in the mall. I was pretty surprised when I saw it, so of course I bought it immediately.

Is there anyway to buy manga (actual book) and read it legit-ly without having to work for money to buy it, or without having to mooch off of your parents, or without having to do anything illegal?

Steps:
1. Find your local library
2. Get a library card
3. Check out what you find. Use inter-library loan when possible.
4. ???
5. Profit*

*Results may vary depending on location.

I got all 21 volumes of Kare Kano. It was the most awesome purchase ever since its so hard to find individual volumes as is since it's OOP for a while.

I usually buy from fellow manga collectors whenever I can. Some of them are selling to free up more space or going through a lifestyle change. If time permits, I go to small manga stores for older and rare manga. Amazon and Indigo (I'm in Canada), I deal with only if I'm following an ongoing current series (I preorder, usually so they just come as they're printed)

nothing like that good of a deal

i always stock up when BAM has their b2g1 sales. plus i'm a member so i get that extra 10% off and free shipping. and usually i use a $20 or 20% off coupon depending on what they're offering. not as great of a sale but they're nice and new and usually i buy recently released manga so it works out
