Aran was sitting in the grass singing a strange song as she played with a spider in her hands. The spiders around her moved around like they were enjoying her song and when she stopped they went back to they're webs.

"Now now little Spider, Aran has to go....you will meet Aran again for she lives below this park." Aran put the spider down on the ground, her porcelain white skin shining from the street lamp "Aran is moving over to brush to help another spider family little spider so if you feel like following Aran you may." Aran stood up and walked over to the brush and sat down kind of hidden.

Though she tried her best, the owner of the bike was nowhere in sight. The sun had already set leaving her partially stranded in darkness if it weren't for the gentle glow of the street lamps lining the brick path through the park.

Disoriented and confused, those two words were all that were needed to describe her day. The last time she awoke to a rather rural town where men wore their hair in topknots, wore robes, and walked to and fro in sandals upon dirt paths conducting business out of horse drawn carts. Now those dirt paths gave way to paved roads and the carts were no longer drawn by horses but rather, were driven by men themselves... She made a note to herself that the latter were now even more dangerous than their historical counterpart.

Still, despite the unfamiliar terrain and the setback of not having found the bike;s owner, she pressed forward undeterred because she had another goal in mind: the enticing scent. This she followed until she was finally met with a familiar sight...an oden cart! Winter clasped her hands together in excitement, figuratively of course. On the outside she maintained her blank and neutral look but on the inside she was feeling ecstatic. She was in luck, this would be her first meal in what felt like forever. She eagerly pulled out a stool and sat down.

"What can I get you, Ojou-san?" smiled the cart owner.

"One of everything, please" she replied, monotone.

"Coming right up!"

As she sat at the cart, quivering from anticipation, she noticed a far off bush shaking in the distance. She would have been more curious had her food not been served at that very moment. With her attention entirely absorbed by the steaming bowl of broth and fishcake, she dug in, temporarily oblivious to the rest of the world... and the trap her stomach had set for her.

Aran soon walked out of the bushes and saw the oden cart and her stomach growled.
"Aran is hungry" She said to herself and walked over to the cart and sat down "Aran wants anything good.....Aran does not care what" She said and looked at the girl next to her and looked at her food "Aran wants what she has" she pointed and the cart owner nodded as she sat there looking at winter.

"Why so cold? you smell of ice and snow, Aran likes the smell but children do not" she said out of the blue toward Winter.

"I am Aran, Aran lives not far from here with many friends below" she said pointing off in a random direction.

Winter cast the mysterious girl a suspicious sideways glance, her chopsticks still hanging loosely from her lips. Having to share the food was... fine for the most part but the way Aran had abruptly introduced herself was slightly unsettling, especially the part about her odor. She distinctly remembered taking a bath before her last hibernation.

Regardless, Winter humored her by turning her head towards the direction Aran had pointed in. It just so happened that it was in the direction of a billboard advertising a nearby apartment complex.

"Looks to be a nice place..." she responded before raising her bowl and taking a lengthy sip of soup.

Aran claimed she lived there with many friends below so Winter assumed she lived in one of the top floors.

"If you live in such a nice looking place then you should probably head home soon, it's getting dark after all."

Aran turned to look at where she pointed as well "Aran does not live far.....we like the dark since not much people come around" She got her food and started eating, she was really good with her hands because no matter how she held the chopsticks they never fell. She fixed her glasses and looked at Winter again.

"You do not have a place to stay.....most here smell artificial and smell of fancy soap but you smell of the old days" She said with a smile "A pleasant smell for Aran and her friends." Aran finished her food and stretched. She payed for the food and stood up "Maybe new person can come visit Aran.....you are new here right, you do not smell like the others I have seen." Aran confused the Cart owner but they shrugged it off as young kid talk.

(lol I smell like an old lady T-T)

Well it certainly sounds like a nice offer...

Under those circumstances, Winter was under the impression she would be presented with an opportunity to visit a high rise apartment. But there was just one thing holding her back from agreeing on a whim. ... The extra pairs of legs across Aran's back that the cart owner was clearly incapable of seeing.

Are you seriously not seeing this, old man? she wanted to blurt out loud, but it would have been highly uncharacteristic of her, not to mention rather rude.

Though Aran's smile seemed sincere, her eyes were that of an apex predator's. It caused her to have the premonition of being rendered helpless like a butterfly in a spider's web.

However, the anxiety over her premonition was soon overshadowed by another growing concern.

"You kids taking off? That'll be 2,500 yen for you Miss" reminded the cart owner cheerfully. "Though I must say, you sure can eat for your physique!"

Uh-oh...

Upon watching Aran pay for her meal, Winter was harshly reminded that she did not possess even a single yen to her name.

Aran looked at Winter waiting "Are you still hungry...Aran can wait if your still hungry." Aran though got out of her seat and stretched some more like she was stiff from doing something.

She looked back at Winter and noticed something was off "New girl has nothing to pay with...Aran can pay for you if you like, she has enough" Aran took her wallet from her pocket and placed the money for the food on the counter. "So do you want to see Aran's home and friends new girl?"

Winter stood to leave. Though her face didn't express it, she couldn't stand the thought of being indebted to anyone. At first she was suspicious of the arachnid-girl but the gesture of kindness was too much causing her mistrust to melt away like the first snow of spring.

The quickest way to a person's heart was through their stomach. Err wait... or was that a man's heart?, she mused.

Either way it didn't matter for she was widely known as sort of a tomboy at several points in her life.

"Do you live far from here?" she said, pointing towards "her" bike. "I'll give you a ride home."

Aran looked at the bike. She then looked at the direction of the sign thinking, she fixed her glasses some before looking back at the bike.

"Aran never rode a bike before....is it safe?" She asked a little nervous as she messed with her hair "Is it okay to ride it? Aran lives just under billboard sign so its not to far but Aran wants to try and ride bike."

Aran walked over to the bike and touched it, she smiled kind of excited but the smile was a lazy one as she touched the seat " Does new girl know how to ride it?" She asked looking at Winter.

"O-of course!"

A bluff.

She had never seen this type of transportation before and only had a vague idea of how it was used; she had walked it all the way from the outskirts of town.

"Well, first you..."

She tried to swing a leg over the seat but the folds of her robe prevented her from doing so.

"Hum..."

She looked at Aran, scanning her from head to toe. She then snapped her fingers. In response the robe around her body warped, mimicking Aran's outfit with exception to the spider motif. Her outfit now modernized, Winter effortlessly slid onto the seat of the bike.

"See? Not so bad, right?"

Aran watched amazed at how she did that and watched her get on the bike but raised an eyebrow.

"Aran thinks your doing it wrong... Aran see's others ride it using this below" She pointed to the pedals "The use they're feet to move them and stay balanced but Aran is only good at climbing not riding one of these.......so will new girl take Aran home" She asked as she moved behind the bike ready to get on the bikes two bars that came from the wheels.

Winter's original intention was to simply let Aran sit on the seat while she pulled the bike by the handles. She hadn't expected the situation to suddenly become so complicated but at this point there was no turning back. She took a deep breath and prepared to shove off, one foot on the pedal.

Here goes nothing...

It was at that moment a police officer on a bike pulled to a stop beside them, illuminating the two in beam of his headlight.

"Hey you two, no double riding. You know the rules, you should know better!" he scolded. "I'll let you off with a warning this time but don't let me catch you two pulling that stunt again."

Having said his piece, the officer rode off into the darkness.

A sigh of relief escaped Winter's lips. She turned towards Aran.

"Better luck next time I suppose. Guess we'll have to walk, sorry."

Aran stepped away slightly disappointed. She really wanted to ride the bike. Aran just sighs and pointed in the direction they were going to walk.

"It is just this was, Aran will show you" She said and started to walk "New girl will like Aran's home and friends, but Aran does not know new girls name....did you say it earlier, Aran sometimes can't hear things right."

Winter followed, pulling the bike alongside her.

"Ah, that's right. I haven't introduced myself. How rude of me."

A chill ran up her spine in reflex. It brought back unpleasant memories of having been disciplined by her mother for her lack of manners, having been told repeatedly that it was unbefitting of her royal bloodline. Being wrapped in a thick blanket, hung upside down, and beaten with a stick was just one of many techniques of discipline employed by the Ice Queen.

"Of the season of chilling winds and biting snow; Winter. Pleased to meet you." she with an awkward forced curtsey. "I suppose I shall be intruding upon your kindness tonight so do tell me more about this humble abode of yours."
