Enjoying it for the most part. Just finished up to episode 106. Reading some stuff about "filler" episodes, and was wondering if they're worth watching, or if it's just fluff.

Surprisingly I didn't mind the racing arc with Idate too much, and I liked the character building for his bigger brother Ibiki, who I sort of forgot was one of the testers during the Chunin exam arc. Not having him show up for quite a while and introducing tons of other characters such as Jiraiya who steals the show for a bit tends to do that lol.

I guess I was able to tolerate it because it wasn't completely clip scenes showing stuff that happened in previous episodes:

Are the other "filler" episodes similar to this one, where they reuse some scenes but add new stuff? Or are they going to go into " heavy recap mode" like episode 26 did? And if so, should I avoid them?

And does Shippuuden do something similar? Haven't gotten to it yet, but a quick glimpse of its episodes show heavy filler material as well. But is it "some reused scenes with new stuff", or do they just go into "recap/clipshow mode"?

All the big Shounens do recaps, fillers and time wasting. its up to you whether you want to watch them, they can be good or bad depending on your outlook, fillers can easily be skipped most of the time as they don't usually provide any cannon material to the story.

A lot of recapping of the last episode, clips, reused scenes, you name it they will use it. They do it so the manga can get further ahead for the anime to catch up later.

Some people hate fillers and skip them at all costs others will watch them regardless.

Drop it, pick up an actually GOOD long running anime, like Gintama, Hunter x Hunter, or One Piece.

Nobody can really tell you watching filler is wrong if you don't mind it. If you start to mind it you can skip it, or if you want to cut a few hundred episodes out to make the whole thing easier to finish. But if you're liking it why ask for approval.

I just never bothered with filler because none of it was canon and the writing tends to be not great.

I only watched the core story, and to me, Naruto is a pretty good story with amazing soundtrack and definetely worth watching.
However, if i'd have to go through all that filler, i don't know if i would have the same opinion.

Do not watch one piece.

It's like watching Naruto, but without the core story, only the fillers.

the actual storyline itself was pretty immersive. its world was amazing, the ninja skills etc. the only problem I had was with the dialogue... it gets repetitive sometimes.

the fillers... the Naruto fillers are OK. the shippuuden fillers have a lot of flashbacks... they get tiring after a while. Like stop it, stop giving me flashbacks that serve no purpose to the story, goddamnit.

but since you're just starting, you can easily skip the fillers, or just google what eps are fillers.

I would try and watch a few of them, cause there are some good filler episodes within the sea of shit. But Naruto as a whole is most certainly worth watching has some amazing action scenes (usually at important parts of the plot) and the characters are pretty fun. It gets a lot of crap for all the filler (which is fair enough) but people forget about the awesome parts in Naruto as well.

Not really. As is well documented on the internet, people who watch Naruto think it is either great or shit, people who watch OP think it is great

Naruto filler sucks, just skip it for the most part. There is some good filler, but it's a pain to separate it from the rest. Hard to do it on a tablet, but maybe later when I'm sitting at my desktop PC I'll revisit this post and make a concise list of all the good filler. Naruto is easy to figure that out since those giant filler seasons are pretty much all bad and skippable. But Shippuden has its filler peppered throughout the run, and some of it actually adds to the main story arcs, so it's way harder to deal with.

for Naruto 1 I would say watch up till 135-ish i don't remember exactly what episode it is, after that skip to shippuden,
shippuden is not quite as bad about filler if marathoning. watching filler on weekly release is pure hell though
