Just skip all the filler in naruto and naruto shippuden. They are horrible and made me want to drop the show multiple times. Also there are going to be a LOT of flashbacks in both shows.

i watched the whole of naruto and there are some good filler arcs episode that are fun to watch
but its been to long since i started watching naruto that i can't give you specific details
and shippuuden fillers are a little more boring because they usually take to long to build the story
and as for recap episode naruto has a lot of them and not many are good or ad value to the story
so i suggest use a filler guide if you google naruto filler guide you will find what i mean

Naruto actually has some really interesting filler plots. The problem is the very high number of flashbacks to very recent moments, and that they recycle the same 4 or so background songs throughout the entire original series. I'm glad I watched the whole original series though. I would feel weird not knowing about all of Naruto's near death situations since the show is partially a survival story. The filler missions have Naruto pair with pretty much every side character, which makes for some entertaining interactions.

skip the fillers

except the akatsuki fillers, those are good (the ones of yahiko, nagato and konan backstories)

Not really. As is well documented on the internet, people who watch Naruto think it is either great or shit, people who watch OP think it is great

OP is shit

Unbelievable with people trying to force their opinion on others.
Naruto is in my opinion a great anime, and most of the fillers are more often than not, at the very best "ok"

I made a filler guide that covers all the way up until episode 400 or so, if you decide to skip ahead to the main story episodes.

As for your question, well it depends as others have already covered.
Some episodes try to stray far from the main storyline and do something slightly different, others are "fun" little experiments and then you have those recap fillers. It's almost impossible to define a general tone for the average filler in Naruto, all we can pretty much confirm 100 % is that there are lots of them haha.

I watched most of shippuden this year (dropped it after a month for some other shows) after seeing the constant stream of people shitting on it for the past few years.

It was surprisingly good. I think it gets hate because its popular and all the "kool seekret club" people shit on anything popular. The flashback arc (the one with naruto's mom) was really good.

I dropped it part way into the war.

It was a pretty good show. I personally got bored around the war arc, not because it was bad or anything but I felt like watching other stuff.

This basically sums up my opinion of Naruto. The flashbacks, filler, soundtrack, and jutsu's just killed the show for me.

filler by filler by filler followed by flashback in a flashback about a flashback within a flashback. I love the anime, but DEAR GOD PROGRESS WITH THE DAMN STORY AND ACTUALLY LET ME WATCH SOME FIGHTING AND NOT ABOUT HOW GUY-SENSEIS DAD IS AWESOME/STRANGE! I was so angry when he opened all 8 inner gates and it had a flash back for like 16 min of the episode. It's getting annoying.

Enjoying it for the most part. Just finished up to episode 106. Reading some stuff about "filler" episodes, and was wondering if they're worth watching, or if it's just fluff.

Surprisingly I didn't mind the racing arc with Idate too much, and I liked the character building for his bigger brother Ibiki, who I sort of forgot was one of the testers during the Chunin exam arc. Not having him show up for quite a while and introducing tons of other characters such as Jiraiya who steals the show for a bit tends to do that lol.

I guess I was able to tolerate it because it wasn't completely clip scenes showing stuff that happened in previous episodes:

Are the other "filler" episodes similar to this one, where they reuse some scenes but add new stuff? Or are they going to go into " heavy recap mode" like episode 26 did? And if so, should I avoid them?

And does Shippuuden do something similar? Haven't gotten to it yet, but a quick glimpse of its episodes show heavy filler material as well. But is it "some reused scenes with new stuff", or do they just go into "recap/clipshow mode"?

To answer your question, most fillers don't feature flashbacks and a lot of them aren't connected to the canon like that one.
