What was the first anime you watched that got you hooked into Japanese animation.

Shows like One Piece, Yu-Gi-Oh, Naruto etc don't count unless they were the anime that made you delve further into the anime genre.

How old were you?

My first anime ( excluding the childhood shows like Pokemon etc) was Vampire Knight or Code Geass . age 15.

Saw it at the video store one day and was instantly captivated by the art.

There was one I saw on TV but I have no idea what its from but the art was amazing and that really got me into anime back in 1997 when I was 8, and don't forget Pokémon!

then after that
DragonBallZ, Yu Yu Hakusho, Ruroni Kenshin, Sailor Moon, Ghost in the Shell, I forget what Gundum one I was watching in 1999.

Hmm... well, being as old as I am, it would have been Kimba the White Lion (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kimba_the_White_Lion) which ran on US television (as reruns) when I was a child.

The first anime that really "got me into anime as a hobby" was either Akira (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Akira_(film)) or the Tenchi Muyo OVAs (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tenchi_Muyo!_Ryo-Ohki).

For much of the 1990s, I was buying fansubs on VHS taps and what little legit anime that came my way via a small video store in southern Michigan. I still have all the VHS tapes from the time. Probably should burn them.

Saw the first Pokémon movie when I was around 5, which led to watching the anime until about 11 or so, when it was on TV along with Digimon (excited to see the new movies with the original characters for a bit of nostalgia!).

Officially got back into anime around the end of high school when a friend recommended Angel Beats, and the rest is history...

There were two series that I distinctly remember enjoying: Voltes V and Daimos

I was probably 6 years old at the time (still in the Philippines). Being at that age, I didn't really differentiate between western animation and Japanese animation (they were just cartoons to me lol). That said, both series left an indelible impression on me and I credit them with my love for anime now.

As a kid, probably the Digimon anime on TV, alongside Dragonball Z. However, the first anime I set out to watch for some reason was Mirai Nikki (the synopsis of the plot intrigued me), followed by Cowboy Bebop (which still remains my favourite).
