"One Piece: Zoomed-In-Missing-Details-Buchered Edition" is a more appropriate title for it.
One thing to remaster it in HD or in Crunchy's case 1080p-SD, but to cropped it up is a bad thing.

Why watch cropped anime?

Its not how the original anime creators wanted it to look. Its not how the manga author wanted it to look.
It's a cash grab for people who dont care about what they are paying for.

This isnt a remaster, its hack editing with fancy billing.

As a fan of the One Piece anime, I think that the animation quality has been greatly improved from the originals. The lines and coloring aren't as fuzzy and eyestraining. The anime started in 1999 so I'm glad that Toei animation took the time to update the episodes to fit the industry standards of today. I think it's a great service to Oda's work.

We have both the original and remastered versions on crunchyroll.

It's 100% possible to have something in 1080p while keeping it 4:3, Star Trek did, Twin Peaks did, Yu Yu Hakusho and Ranma did.

I wish One Piece (as well as DBZ) would have gotten the same treatment Yu Yu Hakusho did instead of the cropping. I really don't mind 4:3 since that is how it was originally made. I don't know the entire process, but it seems like it should be possible to keep something 4:3 while also enhancing the picture. Basically the tops and bottoms were cut off we are getting a pan and scan presentation that looks really good.

I'll take the good with the bad, I guess. It looks fantastic, but it's obvious how much picture was cut off just by looking, too.
