Eh.. I'd be very hesitant to send my boss a meme even with just the word "shit" in it.. It just doesn't scream "professionalism" to me. A single suspended shift is rather minor in the grand scheme of things. If that's all he has to worry about for that big a lapse in judgment he should be relieved, take his lumps, learn his lesson and move on.

Some people live pay check to pay check. Every bit counts for them. I doubt this guy is one of those people, but a days pay can mean a lot to some. Hell, I'd be out $320 if it were me.

I'm sorry, but telling people they need to get a sense of humor about this sort of thing, is just a cop out to me. Some people, myself included, are offended by the 'n' word. It has nothing to do with not having a sense of humor, or being 'politically correct', it's the history of the word! It's knowing what that word represents, means, who it's effected over the years.

It's not just a word to some people. You can't expect people to stuff their emotions away, and pretend they mean nothing.

Also it's pretty stupid for an officer to do this, especially now. Remember that giant protest in Boston? I doubt anyone wants a repeat of that somewhere else, especially when racism is back on everyone's minds.

I would argue that "Aw shit nigga" isn't even racial. It's just a colloquialism for surprise, disbelief, and incredulousness. If I say "Oh, snap son" to someone I am not in fact implying that person is my son. Same logic.

Or, in other words, WTF is wrong with people.

I see your 17 and most likely live with your parents.

You dont understand how hard it is to miss 10 hours when your strapped for fucking cash.

Fact of the matter is, its an over reaction. They could have called him into the office and said it was inappropriate and not to do it again. It does not call for a suspension of any amount of time.

If i was to miss a single day of work, I couldn't afford to go grocery shopping this week.

Im gonna air on the side that he is probably not going to be struggling from missing a 10 hour shift. Law enforcement is usually paid well enough they could miss a shift without pay.

Well no shit. You dont use the fucking n-word and expect everyone to be cool with it.

I predict this thread is going to be made up of a ton of white people defending the us of the n-word. Uggh.

it may not be right he sent it, but it dosent warrant a suspension from work

He was suspended 1 ten hour shift. Seems reasonable to me.

for 1 word, i dont agree with that, the 1st amendment is the right to free speech, weather or not you or i like it he has the right to say that

As far as I've heard cops are held to different standards. I suppose one shift missed isn't the end of the world. I suppose just be careful who you send such memes to, lol

Waiting for someone to bring up my age.

Not like I did research on how cops are paid in Florida or anything. Which I did.

Base pay of a Casselberry Fl officer according to there website is $36,999 a year. The average salary of a Casselberry citizen is $19,626 according to the census . Hes making $17373 more dollars than your average citezan per year. Unless hes blowing money like an idiot he already lives a more comfortable life than most residents in his area.

Divide the base pay by the industry wide standard of 2080 hours per year and you get $17.78 dollars an hour. A shift of ten hours would get you $177.80 dollars for a ten hour shift. Mind you minimum wage in Florida is $8.05 dollars an hour. I really dont think this man is suffering.

I find this so stupid it's hilarious. Technically the meme didn't say the n word, nigga and the n word are two different things based on history. It could be offensive to some people but does the guy have to take an entire unpaid 10 hour leave for it? Did he offend the entire freaking country? I really don't think so. Must a police officer act like a pure, holy savior of the entire world all the damn time?
But really this is a dumb thing to do. All because of a funny and cute little Fuko meme? Pshh, America is getting better and better.

It garuentees you a right to speak not a right to not be criticized for what you said, businesses and especially public offices need to keep good PR with the public and as we all know PR between African Americans and Cops is not doing well right know.

No government came down and restricted this mans speech only a business which they have every right to do.

As I said, I doubt he's one of those people. He doesn't make a lot of money. Anything under 40k a year is poor... lower middle class "at best." Not to mention we don't know what the guys life is like. He could be married with kids or under a lot of debt for all we know. Doesn't really matter. The point is, don't assume something even if you disagree with the guy and his punishment.

Casselberry, Florida police officer Matthew Blunt was suspended for one, 10-hour shift without pay after sending an image of Fuko from Clannad with the message "Aw, sh*t n****" from his personal phone to his supervisor Kristine Pamatian's department-paid cell phone. Blunt was celebrating his win of US$32 in the lottery.

This is silly, and it was definitely his fault. If you want to send shit like this send it using personal phones and keep it off of the company's equipment. People should watch what they view/send on anything company owned. If the gentleman sent that image to her personal phone they couldn't do shit. I'am sure he wasn't really thinking due to him just winning the lotto. I do believe it was innocent, just a joke, no big deal. Some may find it funny, some may not.

Also the man has just won the lottery so I'm sure he's not crying over the lost of a day's pay.
