My Prof' was bringing up sex talk today, and while she went down on the good behaviors on what healthy lifestyle you should be living up to, somehow 4chan came up, she was talking about how the internet is not a safe zone to be posting nudes and she brought up a story on HuffintonPost of 200k Snapchats leaking and it's was hilarious when she pronounce 4chan "Four-CHAIN"
Spoiler Alert! Click to show or hide I swear, I was screaming inside to keep my poker face when a group of Anime Obsessed Americans started chattering on at the back. After I got home I started opening a Private Tab on Chrome and logged into 4chan (I don't think I can even begin to explain if they got my history of me getting on 4chan) and to a certain point I can tell you Anons is that your image is in utter shambles, but for some odd luck- I opened an interesting post, it was a bunch of Anime scene fitting into the song "Young and Beautiful". http://i.4cdn.org/f/Young.and.Beautiful.swf It was one of those things that miraculously erased all the crap painted permanently, I felt like behind what 4chan appears to outsiders- I can only imagine the Guardians who would walk with them through out the times there names was being dragged through mud, displaying like beggars for the sake of loyalty. I gotta admit, maybe I'm just really over thinking this, but is it possible that deep down underneath, 4chan is something redeeming to society? |

4chan is what happens when anonymous people get together and interact anonymously. It is neither good nor bad. Has bad shit come from it Yes certainly. But people often get so confused about some of what happens there. Your average /a/, /mu/, or /tg/ user are just normal people and have no connection with the stupid stuff that goes on other boards like /b/ and /r9k/.
Ive had numerous incidents on 4chan were I have done my best to try and talk people out of suicide while urging them to call Suicide Hotlines. I have had people thank me afterwards for it too. Is it redeeming to society? I cant say. But I feel that I havent been negatively effected by it. |

4chan is an abyss of awesomeness and assholes all at the same time, and I am one of its denizens.
I only use /a/ and maybe sometimes /pol/ when I want a real good laugh. Some anons just want to watch the world burn, some anons want to plant flowers and see it bloom. |
Officially back on crunchyroll.

I should point out, there is at least one incident that happened from 4chan where anons drove a young woman to suicide. |

The thing people get wrong about is that its rare for anons to visit other boards and for all intents and purposes they function as there own websites culturally. That being said in the year and a half ive been on /mu/ I have never seen any organised harassment of any kind and the only crime that i saw being committed (which was the organisation of a vigilante group) resulted in me tipping off the police in the area where he wanted to form it about the crime. |

I heard of 4chan before, but I haven't dig deep enough on it. Some of the postings were funny and cool, and some were flat out pathetic. But, I'll try to visit 4chan more often.

Like I said before nothing has happened while I was on there but reading some of the shit they pulled in the past was just horrific. Everything has just settled down know and there are no active harassment campaigns anymore. |

I like to think of 4chan as the biggest experiment in anarchy that man has ever built.
It's neither good or evil--in fact, it's inherently neutral. The community is made of both good and evil. It's the current posters that determines whether 4chan is good today or simply a cesspool. I've gone there for a long, long time. I refused to relocate to 7chan on /b/day. I refused to succumb to the temptations of PUDDIPUDDI. I've seen the botched formspring m00t set up and much, much more. So I can say this with complete confidence: 4chan is a pretty fun place. The media tends to only report on the negative posts of 4chan. This is bad because most of it comes from our beloved /b/. This gives the connotation that the whole of 4chan is filled with douchebags. But what about /c/? What of our dedicated old-schoolers back in /tg/? What of the technology freaks in /g/? Well, granted, those are boards that don't really have any negative posters, but that means they shouldn't be combined with the posts from /b/. One rotten apple spoils the bunch huh? TLDR: 4chan isn't bad at all. Lot of good people there, but they are seriously overshadowed by the actions of /b/. Even in /b/ there are good people, but still overshadowed by the bad posters. |

All the times I've gone there I had to stop because I felt that I was killing a lot of time that I could be doing other things.
I get the same feeling from going to Pixiv and deviantart.... I still go to them... As far as some of the other stuff that I heard about . . . I wasn't there, so I cannot really say... I guess I am trying to say I enjoy it like a "forbidden fruit" just not to often... |
