Why does CR only pick up censored anime when there are times where they could pick up the uncensored version but they dont

They buy the simulcast versions of anime which is the version that airs in Japan and Japan currently have laws on what you can and can't show in TV... I hope that answers your questions

Freedom of speech doesn't exist, if you can't use specific words, there is no freedom of speech.

I think it's because this is a family oriented service...

When one considers all the venues open for watching anime, why worry about any alleged censorship on CR's part.? If you are really worried about the arbitrary removal of a gore, a nipple slip, or a money shot as being a impingement on your viewing sensibilities plug the anime in question into a search engine and have at it.It's difficult to imagine that anyone responding on these forums isn't internet savvy enough to easily accomplish this.

I understand from a "purists" point of view where you're coming from ,"Art for Art sake". CR is in a very competitive business to make money and that includes catering to the largest demographic for that Dollar/Euro ,what have you..A large portion of CR's viewers are considered minors, depending on your geographic location . Let's face it .CR wants to make more profit and not to perpetually sponsor some legal eagle's kids soccer team because of a fight over content.I believe"The Ancient" actually had a very good answer to this very question some time back.Sorry I can't remember the forum post heading.

Funimation has uncensored anime and they do not restrict it hell CR has a few anime that's damn near unwatchable cause of the censoring

They stream it and get it directly from the Japanese studios, where as Funimation and Sentai are a dubbing studio, after it's been dubbed and released in disk, they I'm guessing are allowed to air the uncensored version of it in subs as of course dubs.

Crunchyroll isn't a dubbing studio they're just a streaming site so they can't alter the videos in any way i would imagine.

I think CR deals more with broadcasters. So CR streams what the TV channels air. Funi deals more with the studios proper and they usually end up being full-blown sub-license holders so they might even get film masters straight from Japan.

A lot of the uncensored anime that FUNI has is on Netflix for newer shows like "High School DxD" while Hulu has older FUNI titles that are uncensored like "Girls Bravo". And while CR has censored stuff, they do have some titles that have a mature warning, like "Cross Ange" (and "Cross Ange" has a good reason to have that warning, it might be the most extreme anime I've watched on CR).

The site is considered to be PG-13, ergo, the content must be appropriate enough for the younger audiences. Given, there's a far larger margin of late teens and twentysomethings here compared to young teens, but the site is still strictly labeled "PG-13".

The problem with introducing "restricted anime", or anime for 18+ audiences, or for that matter, even uncensored anime, is that pretty much ANYONE can falsify their age in order to watch it. Nudity and everything. Gore too. Given, it's not as if some kids haven't already been exposed to those things in media by 13-14 years old anyway, but nonetheless, CR is still a "PG-13" site.

Yeah, it would be nice. I might a couple of different shows if I got to see them in a better format.

I also get cranky over bad dubs as well.

Most likely because of younger audiences possibly seeing it. It's a law to censor certain things when it's on air in both US & Japan. CR has to follow those rules too, since you know it's easily accessible to little kiddies.
Usually you found the uncensored version of an anime in on DVD/Blu-Ray.

CR is a internet portal so any rules they might have are self-imposed I'd think.

On a side note if mature themes like sex and murder where separated from not so mature themes like death and nudity then media wouldn't have this sensitive overreaction towards things.

But they are streaming these shows legally. So they had permission to air these shows. So I assume they were also told that they have to basically follow the same rules they had to follow when airing it on TV.
