Gamergate: is it really that big a deal?
Posted 5/16/15

I doubt it. It may sound bad, but in the long run it might do a lot of good for diversifying the gaming community.

Oh god. People are still Gamergating? A bunch of losers harass some lady because of what some jilted ex says, and all of a sudden it's supposed to be some crusade for "ethics in gaming journalism"? Give me a break.

Sounds like you took the blue pill man.

Gamegate has never been about harassing anyone lol. While not a member of gamergate myself, you definitely dont have your facts straight dude.

Instead of buying into the propaganda thats farted out of the asses of every feminist nazi on twitter, you may want to actually research both sides.

Gamergate is an open hashtag, anyone can put #gamergate in a tweet.

Thats like saying, all of the protests in America are bad because of a few rioters taking advantage of a movement in order to hijack it for their own purposes.

Dont forget, the anti gamergate side has also spewed quite alot of threats themselves, the most recent being the bomb threat sent to the gamergate meeting earlier this or last month.

But then again, they are both open to outside parties using the same hash-tag for their own agenda.

Every major gamergate member on youtube is about exposing the corruption of the industry and far left political extremism of the games journalism media where a game cant simply be fun anymore, it has to cater to every special snowflake and make them feel included because artists are no longer allowed artistic freedom in communist america.

ALSO critiquing someone is not harassment, just because you cant handle criticism doesn't mean your being harassed.

Sure hope i didn't trigger you.

At this point the movement exists solely for the purpose of justifying its continued existence. Anyone still associated with it at this point is deluded to the extreme, particularly since their inception they've accomplished minimal to no tangible ethics reforms, and in the first place they chose the completely wrong target. the influence of AAA devs on review scores and overhyped journalism coverage ARE major ethical concerns but GamerGate is bizarrely uninterested in actually talking about them. Instead they're targets are predominantly female indie devs and games journalists to whom they attribute vastly more power and influence then they actually have.

It's an insular mob of man-children who spend their time validating their own preconceptions about social justice topics and feminist critics they don't like, co-opted by right-wing pundits who feign an interest in video games like Adam Baldwin, Christina Hoff Sommers, and Milo Yiannopoulos. They're an inherently destructive movement whose ultimate goals could charitably be called nebulous but perhaps more aptly described as non-existent. They just seem to want to make life miserable for people like Anita Sarkeesian and Zoe Quinn, and drown out any discussion about issues of diversity and gender representation in gaming.

I would tread lightly with this thread though, discussions of GamerGate inevitably become a toxic, festering morass of hostility that end up going nowhere, much like the movement itself.

If America is communist what does that make the rest of the world? I nearly took you seriously for a moment.

More like ludicrous hyperbole.
or did you mean the whole post was a sarcastic send up of gamergate's point of view? I could buy that.

I was joking. hence the afterword prefaced with seriously. yeah bowlers have short upturned brims and round tops. I actually witnessed some hipster call one a Fedora though. At which point I figure a baseball cap can be a fedora.

No,

If I wrote it, and said that part of the sentence was sarcastic, then its sarcastic.

I mean, if you want to continue life taking the blue pill and blindly following everything a bunch of gender studies graduates tell you, without actually researching both sides of the conflict; then sure think what you want.

Its not my job to explain everything to you. Your 48, your a big girl who can research and discover things for herself.
