Plot Summary

The story follows the East German Army's 666th TSF Squadron in its battles and political conflicts during the BETA's westward push in 1983.

The East German Army 666th TSF Squadron "Schwarzesmarken" (Black Marks) are a special-forces unit tasked with assaulting BETA forces through unconventional tactics; specifically, they target Lux and Magnus Lux to deny the BETA the advantage of ranged firepower. Their orders are given the topmost priority, such that it is common practice for the 666th to ignore allied distress calls that will result in deviation from their original mission, even if only for a short moment.

Anime project for MuvLuv Alternative Schwarzesmarken announced. It is part of the Muv Luv franchise and the light novel is written by Hiroki Uchida and illustrated by CARNELIAN.

From what I understand, it's more like a spinoff but is part of the same universe/franchise.

I think it'd be nice if this one keeps the feel of the first couple episodes of Total Eclipse...

Well considering total eclipse is set in the late nineties and this is set in the eighties. It's safe to say it's not a continuation. Just a story set in the same world at a different time.

This is pretty funny, considering I just started reading Alternative a few days ago.

Muv-Luv DESERVES a decent anime. I've heard Schwarzesmarken is pretty great, but I don't want to get my hopes up. Alternative created a great, war-torn world, and none of the expansions upon it have been translated yet.

Hopefully Satelite won't handle this one, as Total Eclipse was garbage.

Dat plot summary.... way WAYYY too much technical information. It reads like an intelligence report not the background for a TV show!

This must be the continuation of Total Eclipse but it looks like it's taking place in different locations and possibly a different time. The characters look a bit too generic. Placing an anime in East Germany in the 1980s is an awesome idea.. not sure I'd want such a show to be mixed with giant killer alien bugs, but I'll take it. Does this mean we will get to see an anime Trabant?

Did we ever get any of the rest of the Total Eclipse story on this side of the Pacific? I wish they'd finish that or us before giving us s new story

If you haven't watched Total Eclipse for those folks reading this thread then don't open the spoiler since it discusses the ending of Total Eclipse...

I actually liked the Total Eclipse anime, but that's just me.

It was a pretty good anime, the DVD has just recently been released stateside and I'm adding that to my collection... but whether the VN has material or not I think they could have hashed out a better final episode than the one we have.

The good news is that the series still live, the bad news is that we are not going to see any end to the BETA soon with this anime and VN adaptation

I'm certainly up for more Muv-Luv. Total Eclipse was alright, but nothing particularly special. At the very least, it's better than most mecha shows these days considering the slump the genre is in. Anyway, I love the flashy suits in this franchise, so I'll check it out.
