At this time, anime. I have a distaste for digital books, so with that, there is no way I could ever hope to afford to buy as much manga as anime I read. The colour is a nice too.

That said.. there are many series which manga is the only choice if you want to see til the end.

Lately I read more manga than anime. Especially since I recently went ahead and grabbed an app for the phone that lets me read it at work.

Anime

You know, i'm sure some fans may consider it a mark against me, but I don't think i've ever read more than a chapter of manga in my life, despite seeing a couple hundred anime series thus far.

I've never gotten into the comic format - it just doesn't appeal to me. Now, i've started trying to branch out with this fancy new manga service CR has, but i'm still not too keen on it.

Maybe it has something to do with my poor eyesight - I think I respond better to audio than visuals,

My order goes Light Novel>Anime>Manga>Visual Novel when it comes down to it.

Light novels are essentially the start of it all. Most anime and manga were adapted from them. As they--for the most part--only words, you can get the most out of reading them. They describe setting and characters, shows the thoughts of a character more frequently, etc.

Anime is nice since you can just watch them without having to read, flip a book or click a mouse. Main problem with them for me is that they often have to cut material due to the half hour restriction. Also, the studio can sometimes mess the whole art style and all up. But the medium can help connect people to the characters since you see what they look like, see how they act, their thoughts, and so on.

Manga is notorious for not being updated frequently. Dedicated manga are updated once a week. Others are updated monthly, which isn't really enough to progress the story well. And if it's an adaption to other mediums, they prioritize on those other mediums. Other than that, manga often has humor in it. The way faces are drawn, the sound effect text, and many other features. But honestly, I don't think it's much of a "necessary" medium because of light novels and anime covering what manga does.

Visual novels are often stereotyped as eroge. Not very surprising if you think of stuff like Fate/stay, Shuffle, and School Days. If not eroge, they are often thought as strictly dating sims. But I think of them as an interactive storybook that plays at your own pace. There is an author by the name of Kotaro Uchikoshi that creates great visual novels. They are sci-fi themed, and are pretty tense to play. There is the nakige genre which attempts to make you feel sad after the story is over--or even during the story. Horror visual novels exist as well. I personally don't really play visual novels because they aren't really that available in America.

I prefer anime. I feel bigger emotional connection because during a battle or a touching scene (when done right) can bring out a bigger reaction out of me than pictures and words on a page. Remove the pictures and just give me words then I'll give a book the edge. Then it wouldn't be a manga without the pictures.

Anime. There so much cultural and style issues with manga that I still have to get used to. So taking manga slower than anime right now.

I prefer manga because they can get away with a lot more. But I like anime too because of the voice acting and music.

I like both, but I prefer manga since I can read an episodes worth of an anime in 2 minutes. If I have time, then I would choose anime over manga
