Post Reply Athen City

Athen City. A floating city that's been alive for generations. How is it floating you ask? Well no body really knows the true answer of the question. There have been rumors however. Mostly hoaxes and legends. All they know is its being guarded by a spirit called Athen (Hence why its called Athen City). Its said that she was the one who created the Tree of Life. The ancient scrolls tell her story. After she created the tall tree she realized that the poor thing was not being taken care of. She felt like she was neglecting it. Thats how she got the idea of making little creatures to take care of the being. Those little creatures developed the power of earth. Most of them used it too make houses while others use it to craft chairs and other things. After years of arguments, the elders of the tree decided to open it for all beings to live there. But little do they know that by opening a portal to the city they've also opened a channel for negative beings.

Ming Yue sat in one of the higher branches of the Citadel Tree, staring at the sky. She yawned. 'This might be a good time for a nap', she thought tiredly to herself.

Rinei walked around, as he hummed a song, his tail swaying as he happily walked. For some reason, he was in a good mood. He walked under a nice, tall tree, sitting down in the shade. His tail swayed more as he looked around at the city, plants everywhere.

"Another day I'm still alive," Kana thought to himself while looking at the various species walking around the terrace. Colorful hair and furs adorned the people, animals, and in-betweens, with occasional ears and tails swaying in the light breeze. "I should get some food... Maybe that nice sweet shop near the Citadel Tree!" Kana turned towards the tree and made his way towards the crowd that had gathered at its base. "Why is it so busy at this time of the day?" Kana thought to himself, curious and slightly perturbed that the road was so crowded.

Ming Yue woke up again after a few hours. It was getting colder, so she decided to descend from the Tree, jumping from branch to branch with inhuman agility and precision. 'It has gotten crowded', she noted, as she perched on the lowest branches, searching for a spot to jump down to without squashing a person.

Kana eyed the seething crowd, bright oranges and reds assaulting his eyes, when a flash of gold caught the corner of his vision. "What the hell...?" Kana breathed. This one was much brighter than the others, but it seemed to have come from the Tree of Life itself, up high in the branches. Curious, he trekked toward the growing crowd and the Tree, but something soft underfoot stopped him in his tracks: a toy doll, depicting a little girl with black eyes and brown hair in twin braids. Wondering if the owner had noticed it had dropped, Kana picked up the doll, yet when he glanced back up at the branches of the Tree he had completely lost the location of the flash of gold. "Must've been my imagination," Kana murmured to himself.

Ming Yue found a reasonably uncrowded place, and clambered through the branches to reach that side of the tree. After that, she jumped down, startling a few people in the process. "I'm sorry, that was not my intention", she apologized to them with a slight bow.

A pleasantly sweet smell comprised of cinnamon, sugar, and apple filled Kana's nose as he stepped inside the small pastry shop, and a quiet roar met his ears. Colorful sweets and pastries lined the glass display, and arrays of people talked over drinks and sweets around the small circular tables. Kana chose a small apple-filled pastry and sauntered over to an unoccupied table, hoping that no one would approach him, when he remembered the doll he had clipped to his belt. "What am I going to do with you..." he mumbled, turning the figurine around in his hands. Suddenly, a flash of gold shone through the window--the same flash from before--except this time Kana realized that the color belonged to a young woman garbed in a pink and black dress, with long purple hair that turned pink and then gold halfway down its length.

Ming Yue was deciding what to do now, when her stomach growled.

'Not much leaving me much choice, eh?', she thought with a slightly embarrassed smile, Normally she would have gone to some place that sold meat-dishes, as she had been a carnivore by nature after all.

That might have changed with her ascending to her current level, but old instincts die hard.

In the end, she decided to follow her sense of smell instead, and arrived at a small pastry shop.

Here she ordered a few strawberry crossover puffs.

They were sinfully delicious.

Kana returned his attention to the pastry in front of him and was about to eat the delectable delight when a familiar coldness swept through his body--the chill of death. Although Kana was constantly accompanied by such coldness due to his past, he could temporarily stave off the feeling by eating sweets. This chill, however, was from someone else.

Alarmed, Kana scanned the occupants of the room, attempting to the single out the source of the chill. His gaze eventually settled on the woman from earlier, who was sitting down at a table across the room from him. Kana scrutinized the woman, carefully examining her appearance and mannerisms. "She doesn't look like a killer," he deliberated, "but just to make sure..."

Knife in hand, Kana quickly scrawled onto the pastry a flame inscribed in a circle--the sign of a low-level spirit. "Heed my call," he quietly commanded, causing the pastry to glow a faint red color and then disintegrate to ash. A spirit materialized in place of the sweet, invisible to all but Kana. "Find out the identity of that woman," Kana ordered, "and why she's blanketed with death."

Ming Yue twitched, but continued eating.

Nine-tailed Foxes might not be as omniscient as legend tells, but they certainly knew a lot. Like when a summoning had been carried out. It caused a type of spiritual pulse several certain magical species were able to pick up. What she couldn't discern however, was the motive, so she simply continued what she was doing...

The spirit whisked away to the woman and returned within seconds, slightly more opaque than when it left due to the absorption of the target's deathly chill. "I hate this part," Kana mumbled to himself, closing his eyes before allowing the spirit to merge with his mind.

When Kana opened his eyes, he was greeted by a fiery red sky, painted by the setting sun. As his gaze swept downward, he noticed mountains lining the horizon, and then a primitive rice field, with crude metal tools strewn across the ground. As Kana shifted his vision on the scene around him, however, a fresh scent hit his nose--blood.

Kana's eyes focused on the scene that played out before his eyes in horror: hundreds of bodies, some human, some fox, and some a mixture, lay motionless on the ground, bloody gashes adorning their bodies. Directly in front of him knelt a woman, panting as blood swelled from her chest through her hands As she looked up, Kana was shocked to notice the similarity between her and the woman from the pastry shop, with tiny facial differences distinguishing them from one another. Her face seethed with pain and anger, maybe even hatred, towards him, yet another emotion mingled with that: it was sadness. Kana felt the life seep from her body, and an icy feeling crept through his bones with her passing.

Kana came to at the pastry shop in a cold sweat, shocked with what he had witnessed. Looking once more at the woman across the room, Kana hastily rose from his chair and left the pastry shop. He heard something snap and felt a slight tugging at his belt as he exited the door, but he continued, attempting to distance himself as much from the pastry shop as possible. "She can't know about me," Kana panicked, breaking into a run as his feet met the road.

Ming Yue felt the spirit prodding her aura. Ah, so it was her the summoner wanted to know about. How rude! Couldn't he have asked? She noticed a boy standing up, looking slightly ill. So it was him, probably...

She wanted to follow, but decided to finish eating her pastries first.

She had memorized him anyway...

"Why is it still so crowded?" Kana mentally complained, weaving in and out of the crowd on the street. As Kana stumbled through the crowd, he suddenly tripped over a pair of outstretched legs, bracing the fall with a slightly ungraceful tumble. Eyeing the perpetrator, he noticed that it was a boy around his own age with cat ears and tail. Kana was getting up to brush himself off when he noticed that the doll that he had attached to his waist was gone. "Where did I..." Kana began to question, until a memory cut him off--the sound of something ripping: that something being the the belt loop that had attached the doll to his waist.

Not knowing why he was so upset about losing a doll he had just found on the ground, he picked himself back up and hurried away, desperate to escape the crowd that seemed to be crushing him.
