Since my mtv glory days were the early 2000's I'd probably want to bring back TRL and the Tom Green show. Maybe Jackass as well, but I'd want some fresh faces in the cast.

MTV would be true music video channel controlled by every country in the world. each country gets a turn to vote on what plays on tv then we change countries every hour! MTV2 would play all the tv shows people seem to like.

I'm old enough to remember when the channel debuted. I'd take it back to playing music videos, with the occasional animation block on late night and/or subversive, music-related shows, rather than endless rounds of Kardashian-inspired reality TV. Ugh. We have TLC and E! for that kind of crap.

On that note I think I'd rather own TLC and take it back to when that actually meant "The Learning Channel". Anyone still remember Paleoworld?

Change it back to "music" television and put Beavis and Butthead back on again But I also like these anime channel ideas... not a bad idea as well

It was interesting back when it started.... I got to see it on the first day. After a few years it became mundane. The last time I saw it, it was lame.

One of the things I noticed was if a music video was good enough people would buy the music, no matter how crappy it was..... One of the tests I would use to determine if the music was truly any good was listening to a song, sans video. As time progressed more and more of the music was lame but it sure looked cool.

If I owned MTV?

Sell it and pay off my bills . . . hoping it will die and stop polluting the world with more stupid people made famous by acting stupid on TV..

MTV has never actually been good. That said, I remember watching it back in the 90s and around the turn of the century. I remember in high school, I'd get home from school and me and my brother and his neighborhood friends would watch TLR (Total Request Live) and see how music videos would place and see which new videos would come onto the scene. We did that for a while, back in those days. That was the most enjoyment I ever got out of that channel. Once I stopped with that, I just...didn't really watch that channel again, for the most part. Honestly, I probably didn't watch anything on it for years up until recently when I will sometimes watch bits and parts of episodes of Ridiculousness when I'm sometimes with my brother and he is watching that show.

It actually WAS good around the time you were born.
Pop was more mainstream in the days of Michael Jackson, Huey Lewis, the Go-Go's, and David Bowie dancing with Mick Jagger, so there was a sense that rock music was for "everybody", but 80's MTV still gave it a fringe identity.
They showed entire concerts on Saturday nights, there were epic contests (win a "lost weekend" keeping up with Van Halen's tour!), the MTV Video Awards was a cultural revolution once a year, and there was more of a sense of belonging to a "secret club" if you followed the network on a regular basis.
Directors like Godley & Creme and Zbignew Rybcynski made the music-video form more memorable than the artists (especially true when British two-hit wonders would come and go), and Hollywood wondered how they could get a piece of this strange new visual rubric.

...Oh, and then the misogynist rap thugs came along in the 90's and ruined everything.

re-run all the 80s and 90s programming... thereby returning MTV to its glory days, while simultaneously making it a "classics" television station.

I'm a mad genius.

Yep, I remember when TLC meant James Burke in "Connections", and not "What the Two-Headed Teen and the Midget Couple are doing now, five years later".

I would turn it into an anime channel! But that's just me. I suggest those who actually own MTV start putting music on it since the M is supposed to stand for Music, but apparently there's lots of weird reality tv on it now. Making it available on freeview would be good too.

Realistically? I'd change it back to an all kinds of music station with music videos and interviews with artists, live shows and anything music related. And then watch the value plunge to the point where I have to declare it bankrupt and sell it for a mere fraction of it's worth.

Because reality TV and stupid ass people sells, that why!

you wouldn't prove that point by doing that... you'd just have one less egg in the basket.
