I did watch anime with my mom several times...it just doesn't really interest her. She understands why I like it, but she just says it's not for her. She does like the artwork though.

I'll probably show her the most innocent anime I can find so she wouldn't think it's weird or creepy.

Studio Ghibli

I second the suggestion of Studio Ghibli. Everything they do is absolutely gorgeous, and the stories generally have accessible themes with broad appeal. Good way to introduce someone who isn't already familiar with anime.

My mom has no interest but if she ever decides to see what her daughter is obsessed with I'd show her Usagi Drop. I think that would work perfectly

She might be horrified if she reads the manga...

I showed it to my mom way, way back in the days when only cool fringey people knew about it, and we both ended up hooked on Ranma, Sailor Moon and the Dirty Pair. (Without subtitles, back then, which you really didn't need with the Pair.) She was a game sport for anything curiously cute; too bad she never lived to see Hatsune Miku.

As for suggestions, don't pick YOUR favorite--That's historically the quickest way to drive off new fans.
Pick something that's relatively close to existing tastes, and it's easier to explain.

hmm well my mom would probably dig it since she's the type of mom who goes with the flow i guess, she loves horror and drama maybe Another,Attack on Titan, or Psycho Pass but it would be super awkward at first then i'd get used to it

My parents watched DBZ plenty of times. I had to explain to my father what was going on and why they yelled so much. Oh and of course the over 9000 reference.

Its funny i am close to having a teenager in the house and we watch anime together that i find appropriate for his age.. Depends on the parents personality if they would like anime, i am pretty open minded about most things and will give anything a read/watch, some things get turned off quickly, but a lot of decent books and shows have been found just sticking thru a few episodes or chapters of stuff.

For some reason its hard to get thru to some people that anime are a bit more than just a typical episodic American cartoon. I would try picking anime that has a good storyline for a parent i think.

Watching subtitled anime helped the kid to learn to read way faster than his classmates and he tests at absurd levels for reading comprehension each year. So it does have its advantages..He would sit there watching episodes before he could read and really wanted to know what it said so it was great motivation I guess. Id say the Harry Potter series was a huge part of helping to read as well.
