Hello,

I am new to Crunchyroll and I went through all the anime listings last night and I noticed that some great stuff is missing or unavailable. Can series be requested? Is there a "retired" section I don't know about? Here are some examples...

School Rumble
Zegapain
Soukyuu no Fafner (the original series)
Macross (any of them... well... you can keep 7 ;))
Ichigo Mashimaro

If you don't have them due to licencing, I can understand that. Otherwise, please add them and any and all else you can. Thanks

FUNimation has the ones in Bold

The rest are currently orphaned.

The answer to CR getting them is most likely no. Maybe Macross if the right deal comes along one day. They won't get the two FUNi have and the others may never be picked up again. I would look for the DVDs on eBay for them. While CR has a lot of anime in its catalog, it can only have so much. You will need to sub to FUNi to get a great deal more, and Hulu to get the rest that are legally available.

There is a thread to make requests for premium users. It is not a guarnatee they will add anything though.

It should have answered it for those two series, as they are licensed by another company.

Funimation doesn't normally share licenses with CR, as they have their own competing streaming service.

Any newer Macross series are unlikely to legally see the light of day in the west. You can "thank" Harmony Gold for that.

Funimation has two out of those other anime's you've listed
the rest are orphaned you'd have to either watch them on another
streaming site and or buy them on Ebay. Amazon has some cheaper prices.

Hope this answered your questionn

The norm for most anime has been to license them for a limited amount of time. Unfortunately, back around the time some companies Macross and later two other series were licensed to form Robotech, and Space Battleship Yamato was licensed to Voyager Entertainment to become Star Blazers, the rights effectively had no end date. Harmony Gold also had rather broad rights regarding anything related to Macross.

While it is since been ruled in a Japanese court that the company that licensed the rights to Macross to Harmony Gold didn't have the legal standing to do so, it really hasn't been worth it to any company to challenge it here in the US. The one exception was Manga Entertainment and the two Macross movies you'll see around.

A bit more detail from an old (2002) ANN article:
