So, as many you guys may have come across through your internet adventures, that long shopping list of genders. As a Tumblr user, I've come across my fair share of gender debates...that I don't partake in. Yesterday, me and a friend started talking about this topic out of the blue, cuz we were bored. We share extremely similar viewpoints so maybe it'd be cool to hear some contrasting thoughts.

My question is, what's the big deal? Where's the merit? Obviously, it doesn't have to be limited to just gender but since gender is a prevalent thing, i'ma talk about that. Might come off as a little negative but hey, just my opinion. Don't kill meh! >.<

So, in terms of biology, we are born either male or female. Of course, anything after that is up to you. But, regardless of how you choose to live, you can't change biology. The conservative way of thinking, with strict gender roles, is that you're either either male or female. Then comes the alternative ways, ex. gay, (insert shopping list), etc. In a way, I feel these alternative roles are hypocritical because the existence of these roles are built and rely on the strict gender roles of male/female. It's kinda like denying that you don't have a biological mother or father. That is where I feel the merit in it all is questionable and kinda falls on itself.

Another thing i'm getting from all this, little off-topic, is the feeling of entitlement and the feeling of acceptance from riding the bandwagon. Maybe it's because of all them Tumblr extremists is why I'm feeling this...or something. Not necessarily bad traits to have but, everything in moderation amiright? I feel all humans desire a sense of belonging so we like to put ourselves in a box. Yet, if somebody else tries to place you in said box, it comes off as offensive. With that satiated sense of belonging, I feel, comes the sense of entitlement within that group. i.e. etiquette, expectations, etc.. Sometimes, to outsiders of said group, the sense of entitlement can come off as questionable, irrelevant, offensive. Kinda like pulling the race card where the situation doesn't involve anything with race whatsoever but somehow, an obscure connection is made. At that point, the meaning in it all is skewed. Like the whole Nietzsche, God is dead thing.

I dunno, what do you guys think? Where's the merit?

Male and female.

You can feel like a different gender, and that's totally fine, but it doesn't change the fact of what you have between your legs.

Gender and sex are two different things. Gender is more a set of behaviors and and mindsets that is expected to go along with sex, but that isn't always so. I don't think anybody will deny that they are one sex or the other... and if they do, they are crazy. It is, after all, in the genes. I don't necessarily feel that there should be a long list of genders; male, female, neither, and maybe another one and it should cover whatever possibilities there are even for the more finicky that don't want to simply be a shade of something else.

I definitely don't tend to side with the more extreme crowd you mention, like the tumblr folk. Being overly politically correct, in my opinion, is entirely inefficient and can ultimately have negative affects, and they also tend to invent problems where there are none.

it just has to do with identity
that's it.
& people feel they identify with another gender more than the one they were assigned with.
