To be fair, there are some people who do genuinely have both genitalia. So it isn't made up.

Yup. Sex and gender are not the same. Sex can be referred to as 'biological sex'. Male, female, and three different types of hermaphrodites. This has to do with physical constructs of our bodies, like what type of genitals we have and other reproductive organs.

Gender is something people can assign to each other/one self (I think that is what I read it being described as, IIRC). For example, a male-to-female trans woman is a person who was born as a biological male (cis-male), but due to biological factors within them**, their psyche, they as a person, identify as a female. Hence why they go through the process of transitioning to the desired gender. They can not change their biological sex, but they can transition to the gender they feel they are, and many transition over to it well. If they have accepting parents who are educated on the matter and not ignorant on the matter, that is great for them, for it is always better for people to start the transitioning while they are young. They don't transition over as well once they become a fully developed adult.

** Trans individuals have a sort of anomaly in certain parts of their bodies, I believe it has to do with their brains, how their brains develop, and that in turn affects their psyche. Again, going with a MtF trans woman, they have a female psyche and identify as a female even though their body is a male body.

Male and Female are social words.

We are born with either a penis and scrotum or a vulva.
(Of course that isn't always the case either)

Why does everyone feel the need to identify with something, is being yourself not enough? If you feel like you think more feminine than most men, or vice versa, I see no reason to create a gender role for yourself.

I think actual gender issues are relatively rare. At least I'm sure they are certainly much less common than what we see online. People must remember a few things.

1. Actual gender issues =/= not wanting to conform.

2. It seems trendy to complain about depression and problems in the teen angst years. Where there are no problems, the teen angst will frame things so that a problem to complain about exists. Totally understandable in these hormone-charged years but people need to be constantly aware of this.

3. Social media and the internet put things on blast, making them seem more common than they probably are.

4. Believing that there's an issue when there actually isn't might be Munchausen syndrome or simple delusion rather than the actual issue.

5. Most of the people wailing about their gender issues HAVE NOT been psychologically evaluated and basically proclaim they are a certain way because they feel like it.

6. People love to try hard to be different.

7. Our youths spend less and less time outside and spend more time online and sedentary in their computer chairs. This will certainly affect a person's outlook, especially if done through the impressionable early years of life.

That being said, I'm aware that ACTUAL gender issues do exist. However, I'm not exactly a supporter of psychological self-evaluation and I don't think it's very accurate to self-diagnose a disorder.

I like your responses to forum posts in general because they seem well thought out.
Though, I've yet heard a response addressing the merit of establishing multiple, obscure, genders from people who, potentially, have not been psychologically evaluated but DO attempt to simply seek identity. To me, coming from those people, the effort they pump out seems to be meaningless...and further pandering seems, at least to me, to do more harm than good.
But...I think you've answered my question. The second point you made. I completely forgot about that. That could explain why it seems like something that yields little merit to me. It's my bad for not thinking about that...I think we all know what it's like to be an angsty teen at some point in our lives.

Well I'm obviously not talking about the sexes that actually exist. I'm talking about everything else. You know, the ones that people identify themselves as because they "don't want to be labeled by society's standards, man."

I've never met anyone who has identified as something other than female, male or hermaphrodite.

I've met a few who consider themselves Gender Queer. It's not as common as a desire for a straight swap but it exists.

in the end why do y'all care besides trying to find more reasons to hate the idea of people not giving themselves everyday labels?
besides, people are allowed to change & label themselves several times as well. they're not affecting you or anyone else besides themselves. why care?? care about yourself.
go outside.
get a life.
chill.

Wait, several times only?

more than once basically, ya. it can be a 100 times.
people, especially teens are still trying to learn about themselves. if they choose to label themselves & have different ways of identifying themselves, they'll change every now & then.

I've never really cared what people identify themselves as, I mean their choice isn't affecting me so whatever makes them happy

As someone who is religious, I will leave it at this, Genisis 1:27 "And God went on to create the man in his image, in God’s image he created him; male and female he created them."
