I watched it twice, and the ending is ambiguous which bothers me. I've tried researching it but couldn't find much, so I wondering how you guys would interpret this short film. It's about six minutes long. I'm assuming that the kid and the adult are the same person (while exhibiting a past/future on the same plane kinda thing), but I feel like I'm wrong.

I think the kid is the old man's son and has been dead for several years. The old man decides to join his son in the end.

I think you are right about them being the same person. I feel like it might have to do with the feelings of being trapped, not being who you wanted to be, possibly being hold down by society in some way. Just not feeling like you have any freedom in your life, basically. Assuming the kid & the guy are the same person, the guy never grew up to be who he wanted be & live the life he wanted to have. Which might explain the ending.
Since it's revolving around the kids favorite video game character, Sonic, that's why I think it was. Sonic the Hedgehog is kinda a character you'd admire for their freedom. He's fast & acrobatic. Those I guess are visual traits or representations of being free. Kinda like flying. and his personality is also like a "I don't give a f*ck." ones. But not in a negative sorta way. Those I guess are visual traits or representations of being free. Kinda like flying.
I'm not sure if I made sense tbh lol I hope you understand what I'm saying?

Here a nice explanation by the creators
http://shortsightedcinema.com/ontheradar/the-hedgehog-on-the-radar/

Sonic is a global icon of the video gaming world and has been since the early 90’s. Since young children often idolise their fictional heroes, we were drawn to the visual of a boy dressed up in a home-made blue suit – especially one who is probably a little too old to be dressing up. With the man resembling his nemesis Dr. Robotnik, this was about creating an adventure for the boy in his empty world. However he instead discovers a dark window into where obsession and delusion can lead.

Being avid gamers, the subject of video game obsession has fascinated the both of us for a long time. Especially the effects on young kids. Whilst investigating the theme, we came across the concept of Peter-Pan Syndrome; the idea of not wanting to grow up. It describes a refusal to consider entry into the world of adult plans and responsibilities; to retreat from time. The traits of someone who is an inhabitant of a Never-Never-Land.

When we play video games, time stops. We get the chance to explore virtual worlds where everything is structured. If you die in the game, you just start again. These ideas formed our lost boy character who wants to be Sonic the hedgehog and live in a world where he can stay young forever.

A very interesting find that.

I've got this feeling that the boy is running from something and the man embracing something because of a feeling of some kind of loss. I thought perhaps something had happened to the boy previous but when said boy walked in to the room he was looking around in interest. It wasn't his room. But the man knew exactly where everything was and exactly what he was looking for so I'm thinking it was the man's room.

But that stuffy tho? Remembrance of youth? Shared thread?

Sonic X is an anime. The other sonic shows, Sonic Undergroud, AOSTH, Sonic Boom, SatAM, are not.
He is really just a video game character.

I don't think he ruined it. The thing is even if the creators say "This is what we intended." other people can see it completely differently. Neither side is wrong or right as it's all interpretation and depends on how it affects us the viewer.

From what the creators said it seems like they say to keep reality and fantasy separate and that we have to grow up because childhood does not last forever. They refer to Game obsession and from my interpretation I don't see game obsession.

I see it as both characters are the same person and it just goes to show how cruel life is. The child found his happiness by escaping into the virtual world and he had is hero, Sonic. However he was lonely and no matter how hard he tried to live as his hero/in that world, real life still took over. He soon grew up and with growing up there are more responsibilities. He also begins to see what the world is truly like. All he wants is to be able to live in his fantasy instead of this awful thing we call real life. To him there is nothing for him in this life all he had was his sonic world, but since he grew up that now was gone.

You could watch the super mario brothers porno if you want Ron Jeremy and videogames. Also you know know that a Super Mario Bros porno exists so....

Anyway I thought it was genius. I feel the struggle for anyone into any hobby nerdy or otherwise is to not let it consume us. We have to realize its not our full life and we should do other things. I remember it was the summer before my sophmore year when I read about Chris-Chan (really long and sad story) and came to the realization that this could be me. From then on I made a point to interact with people and know I consider talking with people one of my favorite things to do.

The film itself reminds me alot of gummo with the cloudy atmosphere and kid in a animal outfit.

I'm really not interested in porn .Ron Jeremy as done other work other than adult productions.
It looked like an open suicide note;setting the bird free, The youth retracing the tracks that constitute the thread of his life, and then the the old man pulling the plugs .

Yeah but let's be honest no one would want to watch a ron jeremy super Mario bros porno cause the actually thought it was sexy. It's actually super rare cause Nintendo bought the rights so it wouldn't be distributed. It was leaked later.

I get the suicide angle but it's much more interesting to me why he killed himself than the fact he killed himself.
