PETA is probably just doing this as a stunt. They know being "press sluts" (yes, they call themselves that) will get them attention.

PETA recently released a statement requesting that the oldest pub in the UK to change it's name from 'Ye Ole Fighting Cocks' to 'Ye Ole Clever Cocks' because the name doesn't reflect how intelligent, gentle and well I don't remember the rest of the bull sh!t that they were spouting. These a$$ clowns have obviously never seen roosters gang raping a hen, it's a damn disturbing thing to witness. One holds the hen down while the others take turns at the hen.

I feel sorry that animal activists fighting for good causes have to deal with the fact that extremist groups like Peta exist who create such fucking bad publicity for animal right groups and does far more harm than good (has Peta ever done anything good for animal rights?).

Nope since they tried to do it, they might have tried to cover up their tracks... But they're still out there... All I'm saying is that PETA as a whole has done some pretty fucked up stuff and therefore this really isn't something surprising

what is fucked up about bringing awareness that people don't treat animals very well...?

PETA has historically put to death more animals than any other other organization outside of the meat industry. While the media may be twisting this story, PETA has a history of making ludicrous claims. PETA is not a good organization to support if you care about animals.

It is fine to raise awareness about animal welfare. It is fine to champion endangered species. PETA opens activists to ridicule and often acts contrary to animal welfare. You do know they want ALL domestic animals spayed and neutered, right? That means wiping out those species, FYI.

I agree that often animals involved in industry are mistreated. I do think people should be aware of that and that animals should be handled as humanely as possible. That said, I will continue to eat meat but I prefer to source it from in season hunts (population control to prevent starvation and ecological damage) or local farmers and butchers whose work I can personally inspect almost at will. I am not against the use of animals domestically, commercially, or in research. I would like to see them treated as humanely as possible though.
