Not a huge fan of visual novels. Baldr Force, for instance, had a complicated story and broken gameplay.

So the "Unrated Version" of Grisaia no Kajitsu finally got its official release this week. I read through it when it was originally translated, but I'm gonna go through it again, seeing as I already committed a not insignificant sum of money to the project.

Two things I can note at this point:

1) Yep, that common route sure is long

and

2) That common route is also really funny

Haven't noticed too many changes to the translation so far, outside of maybe a bit of additional editing. Still, anyone who hasn't read it and likes this sort of thing should really pick it up. It's quite lengthy, so the $40 isn't a bad value at all. I think the H-Scenes are uncensored, though it will probably be a while before I get to them, so I don't know if it's a de-mosaic job or re-draws, not that it really matters too much.

I am in the same boat as you, though to be honest I only backed the kickstarter for the sequels. Anyways, Koestl, the translator, does a really good job, and I am looking forward to his translation of Lair Soft's Golden Gakthun.

Dumb question, but I have never played a VN... I know I know... Anyways. Where do you even buy them?

Are they just digital downloads? Are they imports? What's the difference between Eroge and 18+ if any?

Sorry if I hi-jacked the thread a bit.

So I just finished Fault Milestone one (gonna read the sequel next). I gotta say its one of the better visual novels I ever read. Its short, but it has amazing world building, the characters are great, and the plot is intense. The art style is unique, and it makes Fault feel more cinematic than other visual novels I read. Also damn the first one ends on such a cliff hanger.

The writing is also very poignant and well written. Best part about this visual novel is that it very much doesn't fall into alot of stupid visual novel tropes that are prevalent. No forced romance, no silly harems, etc. Its great.

Also one of the most interesting scenes (major spoilers) :

I personally buy mine from a combination of Steam, Fuwanovel, and recommended sites by the various forums I visit. And yes they tend to be digital downloads, I have only rarely seen them offered as hard copy discs, though I hear it's more common in Japan.

As for the difference between Eroge and 18+ is that Eroge is focused almost solely on the erotic elements. While 18+ is simply a catch all for anything, be it tits, blood, and or drug use etc.

時計仕掛けのレイライン -朝霧に散る花- is what I'm reading right now. I doubt many people here have read it but I'm enjoying it soo much. It shows on my profile and some recent comments here as well.

I would read it, but I don't know Japanese. There are so many visual novels that I hope get a translation one day- mainly Dies Iraes and Full Metal Daemon Muramasa.

Also, looking at your profile, you've read Iganock, eh? I love the Steampunk series by Lairsoft and I am pumped for Gahkthun of the Golden Lightning.

Ok It's not as big as some out there but I just recent bought Magical Diary off steam. It's a short and sweet story about a young girl and her first year at a Wizarding school. It was a nice little game to wet my feet in the VN playground. Doesn't take long to do a run through either.

I recently bought Amnesia: Memories from Steam and I'm going to start reading it once I get the chance. Any opinions? But I'm glad that Steam is full of VN's all of a sudden!

I haven't read Dies irae yet but I assume it's super long and painful to translate, probably not happening in a long time. Unless some ambitious masochist comes along at least.

Ooh, thanks for the heads up on that one. Haven't been following the scene closely enough lately so I completely missed it. Could be good.
And yeah I've read Inganock and Sharnoth at least.

The demo for Gahkthun is out, and the full game is coming on the 23rd.
