Why do people act positive about being called an Otaku? It's a term which is usually scorned upon so why to people act positive about it?

Same as being "nerdy" in the US. It went from a bad term to a fun term.

I could care less if someone calls me a name in front of others. Just means they're the lesser human being

otaku is actually a pretty bad term, that's why i dont like it when someone calls me one, or if someone uses it as a "good" word

edit: i actually also don't like it if someone is proud to be a weeaboo, like honestly, be yourself

Cuz it's the closest weebs will ever feel like they're Japanese if they call themselves otakus probably.

I heard it's a pretty thing to call people in Japan. They literally see otakus as worthless trash.

I think it's because each group puts their own spin on terms as well as an understanding on said term that can be very far from the original understanding.

Nerd, like someone mentioned. Otaku in the west is often associated with nerd so it portmanteau'd.

How could anyone be proud of being a weeaboo?? It's another way to say 'wapanese'. Which is an insult.
I usually use weeaboo ironically. Especially if I am talking about myself.

Maybe they don't care what people think
Edit: Al these words are just recycled and exhausted anyway and they all share common ground in that its about a someone who's an expert /specialist or very passionate about a certain crap.

saying "im proud to be a weeaboo" is like saying you're not proud of the way you were born.
weeaboos tend to learn japanese from the anime they watch, so when they do try to speak it, they make themselves look like complete fools.
