Hello everyone! I have a question regarding visual novels on steam. I am currently studying Japanese as a second language, and am thinking of getting into visual novels to improve my reading in Japanese. The question I ask is, are the visual novels on steam only in English, or is there an option to have them translated into native Japanese text?

I have checked out that series, but my question is, if I buy said series, can I have all the text in Japanese instead of English?

I have heard of the anime, but I have never watched it. I'd be interested in reading it through. Is the VN you suggested in Japanese text, or can it be converted into Japanese text? I'm more or less trying to get more practice reading the characters.

Most visual novels can be read in both Kanji (Japanese) and English.

Arid, you are a life saver. One last question, I can see that this one gives the option to switch text, but do others give that option as well? I see a plethora of them on steam, but if it isn't in Japanese, or allow me to swap to Japanese it won't do me any good.

I can't answer the question, but wanted to let you know I've moved this from the "Books & Comics" forum to "Advice, Info, Recommendations." I've also modified the title to make your specific question more obvious.

Please note that if you want to discuss Visual Novels, there are threads for that in the "Gaming" forum.

Enjoy!

At the startup options on most VNS you should be able to pick what language The game is in..
If they don't you can install a Japanese patch... But Anime Vns are in Japanese by default so the patch is normally if you want the game in English.

And no problem any time.

On a Steam Game's Store Page, there will be a small chart that tells you what languages a game is in (if it is in multiple languages). It's located on the right, between a box telling you if the game is single and/or multiplayer, and the box telling you the developer and publisher info.

So, for instance, for Fruit of Grisaia it says that the Steam version has English only interface and Subtitles, and Japanese only audio.

For Planetarian, it tells you that the game has English options for the interface and Subtitles, and Japanese options for interface, audio, and subtitles.

I would recommend searching for the "Visual Novels" tag, and then going through the games there to see which have Japanese subtitle options.
