Why does CrunchyRoll have the Rate button?

What purpose does it serve?

What are it's uses?

Can you tell if it was rated?

I read somewhere that if someone gets enough 'downs', a mod would check the post to see if it's worth deleting or not. Not sure if it's true, though.

I've moved this to Site Support/Minor Questions.

The rate up and down on forum posts currently serves mostly as a way to flag low level spam or other questionable content. If there are enough down ratings (presumably not countered by up ratings) the mods will receive an automatic report about the post and we'll look and see if the post really is a problem. This happens quite rarely. TBH, if something is very clearly spam or inappropriate it is best to click on "Report to Moderators" since we see that right away instead of only seeing it after numerous people have "rated" the post.

Neither regular users nor mods can see the number of up-ratings or down-ratings their own or another's post received.

Okay thanks, was just wondering what it was for.

Also, if a post gets enough downvotes and isn't removed by a mod for whatever reason, it will be hidden by default - so you'll have to hit a "show comment" (or "show review" on those pages) link to see what the fuss is about.

Forum posts don't get hidden though do they? (I do know episode comments do); haven't personally seen it with reviews.

Hmmm.. now I'm no longer sure. I've seen it in show comments, episode comments, and reviews, but suddenly can't recall if I've seen it on forum posts. I think I'll give it a try later on one of my own to see.

We also don't get an automatic notice about it on comments and reviews. It just hides the comment or review--doesn't report it.

I was thinking the question was just about the up/down in forum posts. If we include episode comments then for those you can see the "score" resulting from up votes and down votes, and the comments can be sorted based on the score. In fact sorting those with highest scores to the top is the default.

Well, if you can't see anything happen--and turning gray doesn't count--then it just seems like it does nothing. I know several of us have played with this in GB and forum posts, but couldn't tell if anything is happening.

I'd be fine if it was removed from everything other than comments. At least there you can tell it is working and is useful.
