Lets say it is just a man's brain in a woman's body or vice versa. What part of someone's brain indicates what their gender is? Like if a male infant's brain was swapped with a female's, but all the things listed above were somehow kept the same, what would there be to make that child feel like a girl? The only things that make me feel like a guy are what's listed above along with ingrained social constructs.

Sorry folks. There was some off-topic banter with folks taking jabs at each other, others making popcorn commentary, as well as some excessive multi-posting, so I deleted some posts. These days due to some unfortunate glitch, that means subsequent posts may appear out of order for a bit. Sorry for the inconvenience.

I don't get why people feel the need to incessantly use he/she, him/her. She identifies as a woman.
It's not that hard to switch to female pronouns. Everyone in this thread knows who we're speaking of.
There's no need to continually point out her previous identity. It's in the past.

As for what I think, good for Caitlyn. It's not easy to transition in private. She's had to do it all under scrutiny from the media.

Not sure why people are making such a big deal over this. Its not like other people have gone through sex changes before. Well whatever floats people's boats I guess. Its getting REALLY annoying seeing it everywhere.

A little girl might feel disappointed that she wasn't born a pony.
Sadly, medical science can do little in her case, although there are the obvious social groups to offer imaginary support.

(When the news, or tabloid news, interviews pre-teen TG wannabes, for whom hormones are still a good five to ten years away, they ask them, "What makes you feel you're a 'boy in a girl's body'?"
"Well, I like dinosaurs and baseball, and girls aren't supposed to.."

Did our older generation live through those painful 70's years of Marlo Thomas for nothing?? )

In all honesty i support it completely. However, i was skeptical at first.
I was skeptical because with famous people, you never know what they are gonna do or say for attention, or what they actually mean. In this case i've always saw Bruce Jenner and just felt like something was off, not to say i expected this, but i am happy for him. It's like you said some people are born the wrong gender and i support it. He really deserves happiness, and to be himself... or herself now. It's just at first i thought it was something for attention, etc. Famous people do tend to make up some stuff, to be fair.

It doesn't matter to me, has nothing to do with me. People should be able to do what they want.

So these are the only things that can naturally indicate sex:

Physically characteristics i.e. genitals/breasts/figure/bone structure etc.
Hormones
Chromosomes XX or XY
Sexual Orientation

There is no other way to "feel" like a certain gender. All of these things are easily known. So how does someone identify as the other gender? It isn't anything biological. Liking pink and dresses cannot be a reason. These things are social constructs. So how is being "trans" not just a mental disorder? And why is self-mutilation promoted knowing this?

Sex =\= Gender
Sex is indicated by your chromosomes. XX, XY & even XXY.
Gender is basically your identity , the thing that defines YOU as a person. This didn't need to be a thing if their weren't any social constructs for genders. So being trans is not a mental disorder since you said yourself, those are social constructs. Gender indication doesn't involve biology either.
Also people self-mutilate themselves practically all the time. Transgenders don't promote it???

The only reason why anyone cares is because he's a celebrity. I don't care if he is a girl now he/she can do whatever he/she wants. But scientifically speaking Jenner is still a male. Good luck to Jenner or anyone who wants to do this to make themselves happy.

Huh? Why're you asking me?? I don't keep up with trends; for all I know, they're still using Ecstacy!

It seems Bruce ..and yes he is still a male (brain, DNA will ALWAYS be male), had some regrets over the facial reconstruction (he kept the male organ) - so they brought in a counselor to convince him he was doing the right thing; this kind of psychological sickness does not deserve support (course the Right kind of support is illegal in CA). At least Vanity made some money for themselves. Gender is not changeable no matter how a person feels - to the acclaim of the world nowadays (now that is the real travesty). So no, I will not be participating in Bruce's break from reality; though I suppose if he wants to call himself Caitlyn, that's his affair. Not interested in his life.
