Pretty much the OP title but I'd like to explain a little further.

First of all, I have to be real clear that I have nothing against the genre. Is plain curiosity.

That being said, I really noticed that fans recently (or probably its just me noticing it recently) want to tag any approach between two guys or to girls as Yuri or Yaoi, no matter how small it can be, fans like to tag it as a romantic approach.

I.E:

*2 main female chars looked at each others' eyes for more than 3 Mississippi*
Fan: "Bring the Yuri on!"

*1 main male character helped out his friend because he was in distress and needed moral support and touches his shoulder*
Fan: "I hope they get together" or "I knew there was something going on there!"

Again, of course there are plenty of anime that really are Yuri and Yaoi, and 95% of those animes tend to be clear from the very start of the series. The other 5% is extremely ambiguous but they aren't super popular in most of the cases.

That happens because, sadly, in Japan they tend to be so black and white over the Yuri and Yaoi topic they "feel" that they have to clearly state what genre of anime you're about to watch. Even if its a late night show.

So from a Fan to another Fans, I'd like to know the train of thought behind all this particular Yuri and Yaoi tagging.

Thanks

P.S. If possible, would be cool if ya folks refer to your own train of thought rather than bashing at others' tastes. Much appreciated.

I ship who I ship without regards to gender. The annoying part is seeing characters that for all intents and purposes would do well together but aren't put together because a) same gender and/or b) gotta keep things ambiguous (ofc in harem genre).

Because most of the hardcore fans of both of those genres are fujoshi's who can only enjoy a show if it has hard yaoi or hard yuri subtext in every character interaction.

I enjoy a bit of yuri and yaoi in certain shows. I find that relationships that are yuri or yaoi tend to not take away from the rest of the story like some normal romances do with its forced drama.

Its like when Killua started to open up more during the Chimera Ant Arc of HxH, and everyone was going "I never knew killua was gay for gon"

Its like, hes freaking 11, I dont think he even knows what "gay" is. Its as if they always try to make every character interaction into something its not.

I dont know, I find yuri and yaoi fans to be a bit on the obsessive side of things, but I cant really comment since I have obsessions of my own.

FYI, I've just modified the thread title to get closer to your actual question. I think some folks may have responded based primarily on the original title, which seemed to make an assumption that set the tone for unfriendly reaction, when that clearly isn't want you intended.

Hmmm.... yeah I've heard about Killua and Gon, some other fans even said that the author really meant them to be in that kind of relationship, but I've never saw such proof.

This.

While there's nothing wrong with shipping just for fun, those kind of interpretations undermine the value of a strong platonic friendship.

Because No Yuri No Life?

or for the sake of the argument I'll also add No Yaoi No Life?
