If you'd like to appeal to more females on CR why don't you just start a topic and ask them how to do it.. No need to talk about them in third person.Much of the anime I've watched is overtly sexist and exists to satisfy the testosterone fueled desires of teenage men .I'm not sure from a very distant memory if that's even possible. Sex sells .It's the elephant in the room with a lot of titles. It's one of the classic knocks you often hear from people that say it prevents anime from becoming more mainstream.

First thing my coach said when I told him I was in the anime club was "What the fuck is that, Speed Racer?".

that is hilarious hahaha

well idk about ethnicity but i def know the male/female ratio is pretty close >.> i constantly feel like im in a sausage fest. idk why CR has such a high male percentage, there's just as many female anime fans out there you'd think the fujoshi and the shippers didnt run rampant or something

idk i reckon it doesnt really matter i like anime and so do ya'll so we're all good

I'd still say the overwhelming majority of fans are males. In my small group of sketch collectors that I see at more than one convention a year, it's a good 3:1 ratio with men being in the majority. I don't know, it never really dawned on me before. I mean, I realized there weren't too many women collectors, but it wasn't as if I gave the matter much thought anyways.

I don't know if this is necessarily a bad thing. The worst auction battles I've gotten into were (likely) against other women ; I still cringe about that Mayu Shinjo sketch I lost and how, even at 1.6K, the other bidders had no qualms about bidding more. Men are just as passionate about their waifus as well, but I guess the difference is that I'm not a fan of waifu-material characters and avoid bidding on their stuff.

Most of my friends have watched anime before so I never get those obnoxious comments. I find it very disturbing when non anime fans ask me about porn when ever the subject comes up.

/shivers

But anyways, I'm kind of glad that there are more diverse rom-com anime out there. I feel like anime is starting to step into a new age

I don't know about the exact numbers. but I do know that any cons I've been to (both large and small) have actually had a very diverse variety pf attendees. Maybe it's just the vocal and visible online portion of the fanbase that skews heavily male.

Racial Stereotyping got me into anime, I'm Japanese and my friend who was an anime fan assumed I watched anime, but honestly I never watched it all before. Luckily being Japanese here in US, its not so bad being an anime fan. The most annoying thing is when people feel the need to quiz me on my knowledge of Japan and they act all high and mighty when I don't know something they do.

I think anime suffers from too much sexism. Just take a look at a show like HxH from 2011. Compare number of female characters to male characters. Like in the first exam. I think there was 1 girl, and like 499 guys. The entire show has 1 great female character. (Neferpitou)
Edit: Okay, i like his mom too, but she is just a typical staying home, doing laundry and raising kid character.

I am currently watching Ace of Diamond. So far, theres been 2 good female characters. One of them was only in it for 1 episode. The other one is the coach. Then you have these 3 female characters that spend their entire time alive with making sure the guys playing baseball have it as good as possible. And when the dont do that, the worry/think about them. This may be a show about a guys baseball team but comon!

Get rid of that shit and i am sure more females would find anime more accessible and fun.

This is actually true. There is lots of sexism in anime and Japan in general tbh. The lack of decent female characters & the fact that most animes use females as just eye candy for the viewers is the reason why not many females are into anime.
The anime industry at this point doesn't seem to even care about attracting a different audience. You already see a very common/popular trope in most of the newer ones, that people who are just starting to watch, won't understand. So it's frustrating.

don't worry about it. just enjoy anime. don't think about what other people think. keep a smile on your face have a good attitude and enjoy yourself some anime. Be open to people and let them feel comfortable with you. If you meet mockers, let them mock. show them that anime and manga is the greatest thing.

I think you're right. but that's just the nature of man. regardless of race and culture males in general enjoy portraying women as eye candy. it's up to the women in the respective cultures to make it an issue and unacceptable. if the Japanese women don't complain, men who control the anime industry won't change.

another thought to consider is the anime characters look "white" even though the Japanese insist the characters are Japanese. As long as the anime and Japanese characters look like a completely different race from the Japanese people, really there is no connection felt. so why should japanese women care about how white women are portrayed in anime and manga? this is just a thought.

I wouldn't take much from the polls a lot of users don't even bother with the social side of Crunchyroll and some who post on the forums don't even realise the "polls" section exists. Also Crunchyroll is an American website so it makes sense that there are fewer users from around the world.

Out of my group of friends there are two girls and 4 guys (inducing me) who are avid anime fans and most other fans I've seen are male. (and every one of those people are white) haha

???

I have yet to find an "overtly sexist" anime out of the hundred or so I've watched. Could you clarify what you mean? I might have once found one that was *slightly* sexist, but overtly? No.

How is this a problem? People like to look at good-looking people, whether drawn or real. I don't have a problem with Free! and don't consider it "sexist" against men. (I haven't watched it though so this is based on my outside impression of the show.)

Most of the people I know who are into anime are actually women. Lots of men too, but defintely mostly women. I think online, and this is the same in the geek/nerd community in general, women don't always participate because of the sexist crap we end up dealing with.

And its very sad, on top of that, its a huge loss for Japanese animation industry. Just look how popular pixar movies like Finding nemo or Toy Story is, in all ages and cagtegories. Anime could be that too, in the entire world if just got more stuff like Spirited Away..
