After a recent conversation with a friend in Japan, it seems that taking baths there is more common than in America. She mentioned that in her family, they take two baths a day. I like my morning shower, but only one per day unless I'm really working hard, working out at the gym, etc.

However, as I look at my tub that gets used only to stand in when I'm taking a shower, it made me wonder what other people do. Surely there must be people out there who take baths, but none of my friends do. What's your preference, if any?

shower

bathing feels like I'm swimming in my own filth

I never had a bath...I feel icky thinking about it because the bathtub could be dirty no matter how much I clean it (I hate gems). I prefer showers, clean myself very well and fast and be done with it. To relax I just go to the gym and sweat all my worries away. Nothing better than going to bed after a hard work out!

Bathing is more of a family ritual there than it is here. We in the West just get in and get out, while it's customary to use the same water as the people who bathed before you in Japan.

Neither, when you take a bath you bathe in your own dirt, and when you shower dirt particles fly everywhere. I prefer to use a pack of wet wipes all over my body.

I prefer baths. I take a long, leisurely bath about once a week. They are simply more comfortable and relaxing to me. I always have some nice bath powder at home.

The only problem is that they require a lot of water and I have to remain in the bath for at least 30-60 minutes to feel like I got decent use out of all that water. It can be time-consuming since I can spend up to 3 hours in there. I drink and read in the bath to pass the time. I think I'm the only one in my family, aside from my grandma, who bathes. I used to use the bath water after her (or she used it after me) when I was little and she was flexible and strong enough to bathe without the fear of slipping. Now she has to shower and we put a chair and installed a railing in the area so she can sit and shower.

I think unless you're extraordinarily dirty and haven't cleaned yourself in like 4 days, baths are fine. I think people are just too scared of germs and get sick because they are TOO clean, haha. I usually briefly rinse myself off with cold water after the bath just to cool myself off and that sort of helps with the nasty feeling of excessive warmth. A good bath powder smells amazing and the stuff in it can kill germs. A rinse off just gets rid of anything that's still clinging to my skin and cools my body a bit.

Baths are great for a long relaxing alone time, but showers are quicker and feel cleaner.

I don't care what the others say about baths. Baths, are amazing.

Ever since I was a kid, I was never allowed to take baths because my mom like being a germophobic. So that might contribute to my love for baths. But they're so god damn awesome, just sitting down and relax.

I put music on to pass the time, but showers are nice too. They're relaxing as well. <3

I shower.
Because I'm female. Soapy water can mess with your pH levels and give you infections.

I'm all for showering before soaking in the tub, with clean water. But only if I've had a long day and need to relax.
