depends on what you're looking for. I can't speak for pop or metal but rap has distinct types in it's fanbase.

First you have the usual top hits; the nice beat and catchy hook with subpar lyricism and delivery. These tend to take up the music charts. These are popular because it conveys a simple message that can be easily repeated to add to familiarity.
Examples;

You have the "lyrical Miracle"; Songs that focus on punchlines and rhymes to capture the crowd. These tend to be the songs that showcase a rapper's skills on full throttle
Examples;

You have struggle music; The second most known of the styles, this is the one that people talk of their trials and tribulations. Popular because it can connect to others with this problem, similar to songs that speak of losing love resonates with broken hearts
examples;

You have story telling; the most misunderstood of the types. This conveys a story that the rapper may or may not have been through, but resonates with a specific group of people.
Examples;

Then you have what I like to call Otaku Rap; basically stretching from media, these tend to be references to, or about, forms of media, whether they be movies, music, tv shows, or yes anime. These are fun to listen to if you are a fan of those series or musicians
examples;

There are other styles of course but that'd be too long and I've already lost most of the people who were reading this.

In regards to metal, I don't listen to the genre, so I can't speak on behalf of it. But consider that if someone were to badmouth metal, you could effectively make a list like I did above of different types in defense of it, so that argument can be used for other genres as well.

yes your right but rap in general is just boring and it doesnt have the same feels when i listen to metal. pop is worse though but that ok. and Yes i stand by my decision that music you liking seems MOST of the TIME to show your intelligent or not.

I am a passionate music lover and musician. As such, I try to stretch my boundaries as far as they go and keep an open mind when experiencing all forms of music. In doing so, I have found metal that I absolutely adore and it stands beside rap that I absolutely adore. To write off a genre is to close your mind and to stretch assumptions across the entirety of rap while batting away assumptions about metal just makes you sound like a hypocrite.

There is plenty of rap music by extremely talented individuals with great lyrics. Its perfectly fine if you gave them a fair shot and still don't like them, but don't stretch your assumptions and assert your misled opinions as fact.

Some of the rap I adore:
Astronautalis - Mr. Blessington's Imperial Plot (live because hot damn this is a passionate performance)

Eyedea and Abilities - By the Throat

Saul Williams - Untimely Meditations

Blackstar - Definition

POS - Let it Rattle

Dessa - Fighting Fish

metal in general is just boring and doesn't resonate with me, is it a bad genre? no it is not. There has been no viable credit that has linked types of music people enjoy to intelligent levels. In Political science your argument is what is called "Not a Cause for a cause," in layman's terms, correlation does not equal causation. You also are generalizing an entire music genre and it's fan base. That in itself is a logical fallacy.

Rap and Metal both have stero types and both are guilty of sounding all he same to those who dont actually listen to what is not just mainstream.
Rap, only about $, bitchez, fat ass's, weed, n killing people?
Metal, only about being depressed, doing drugs, and worshiping satan?
etc.
Some rappers write more lyrics in ONE song than a metal or pop singer write for an entire album.
But of course some rappers dont write anything at all original or creative.

pop is just meant to be simple and fun isn't it?

I like all 3, but I'm very picky on what sound I want from each.
Metal, if it's not progressive, don't even bother (VERY few exceptions)
Pop, something hype and catchy. Not very picky with pop since most are already that way haha.
Rap, an appropriate topic is all I ask for.

yes you even like angelamker nice. rap doesn't have a billion of sub genre and it does all sound the same. pop is all the window here. i listen to all the rappers but i feel it dont the same as rock or metal.

1 metal actually takes time yes even deathcore takes some practice

2 yes i know the underground rapper but in a lot of work but the beats are fake and there dont vocals

3 yes all music does take time but that doesnt mean anything everything takes time right?

maybe i just being close mined but i cmon playing a 320 bpm is way harder than 20 bpm by rappers.

any i still think today rap is the reason why ppl is getting dumber

I think metal's cool and all but it's a bit too intense for me. Modern rap has really nice beats and sometimes the ryhmes aren't completely idiotic. But most of the time the general ideas of rap songs are stupid. (Ex: Look at all these bitchez I got, I'm making so much money, I'm so gangsta, no n***ga can mess with me, etc., etc.) So I kinda think the majority of rap pre-dating 2005 is better than the majority of current rap.

And so, the one I like best off the list is pop. Some of it is pretty mindless, (Ex: "I Really Like You"-- Carly Rae Jepsen, "FourFiveSeconds"-- for the life of me I cannot figure out the point of this song) but I think saying all of both rap and pop sound juvenile is going a bit far.

Anyway, the one I like best off the list is pop, but it's definitely not my favorite genre. My actual favorite genres are probably R&B and jazz. And a little EDM, too.

1. There are a lot of subgenres in rap that sound quite distinct, they just often don't feel the need to attach a label to them. In my last post I would argue that all six of the songs I posted could fit into a different subgenre and all six of the rappers have tremendously different styles.

2. A lot of rap music uses synthesized beats, while other rap music uses live instruments. Even so, I'm not entirely sure of your point.

3. I don't think you know what bpm is if you think that rap music is 20bpm... Even still, the talents of rap music often come in composition, lyric delivery and lyric writing. This is different than metal which tends to excel in speed and technicality but neither are inherently superior.

4. Its one thing to say "mainstream music is making people less intelligent" (frankly, a silly point but I could somewhat understand where you are coming from), but to say that rap is making people less intelligent is just laughable. As others have stated, there is plenty of rap music featuring intelligent lyrics and plenty of metal music featuring unintelligent lyrics... you are overgeneralizing and that is not a sign of intelligence

I will stay out of the more "serious" discussions on here... but I'd pick metal out of the 3. I used to listen to a lot more metal back in high school, but I still listen to some metal now, as long as it's not generic

Theres heaps of different types/styles of rap/hip hop But the NEW young rappers all sound exactly the same(for the most part). It wasn't always like that though.
Not sure why that shitty southern crunk style has dominated rap for what feels like two decades and everybody jumping on board..

There's a few. But they are the minority by a large margin.
