Post Reply What makes Fairy Tail different from other animes?

I don't see any difference, in fact if I didn't know any better, I would have thought Fairy Tail was a stereotypical parody of anime, mocking anime and all it's cliches, but nope, it seems pretty serious. Everything about it is either cliche, 1 dimensional, contrived, or unoriginal.

To be fair, in Japan, the show's main demographics are sort of kids under 10 years old, I still remember watching some episodes of Fairy Tail where at the beginning, Natsu tells you to make sure you watch the TV from as far away as possible, which isn't usually something you see for anime targeted to people above 12 years old, a message like that really makes me think that the demographic is for kids (That and demographic statistics), which kinda excuses all it's tropes and cliches because it IS marketed towards very young children. It'd be like attacking Barney the Dinosaur for having no plot.

To me Natsu may be the single most annoying character in all of anime. It's why I only watch the Erza-centric episodes. Even if Natsu is in the episode Erza puts him in his place rather quickly and laughably.

It has good multi-dimensional characters who all get fleshed out. It's female characters are just as relevant as the male ones are. No one in the guild is useless and it actually does "Nakama power" well (unlike the big three for instance) and there's actually good reasons fir it since it comes from magic spells and isn't just a sudden thing. It has a female for a Shounen lead. And it's pretty well written and does a great job at foreshadowing the plot twist so they don't come out of nowhere (unlike HunterXHunter). It is also is very good at going from being hilarious to having some of the most feels inducing moments ever. And Natsu is pretty much a typical Shounen MC improved by being put out of an MC role. He's probably the most fleshed out one of his kind.

Oh and it has fan service both girls and guys. Personally not too fond of the part though. But all in all it's a pretty unique Shounen series. Best one I've ever seen.
