Your ego is how confident you are in yourself & choices.
It's important thing to have imo. But some people have TOO much of an ego & that's annoying...

Depends. It could mean your sense of confidence and self worth. In psychology, it means the part of the consciousness that mediates between your animalistic desires and your conscience.

its what makes you you. To have no ego is to have no will. Eat mushrooms sometime and you'll find your own answer.

The Id

Well that's just plain inaccurate. By those terms the ego is your mediator between your id and super ego.

However, to answer the OP's question, that is not what ego means to me. To borrow slightly from Freud, although I dread involving him too much, the ego represents our sense of self, that is, if we assume that the ego is indeed the mediator between the id or our base unconscious desire and our super-ego, our restraints put on by authority figures such as our teachers and parents, then it stands to assume that the ego would be our sense of self.

To elaborate, our self, divided between the instinctual self and the civilized self is forced into our compromising self which we consciously and subconsciously create and grow as we age and are educated. Our growth, development, choices and life in general can be said to be the result of the struggle between id and super-ego and thus, the ego being the middleman, becomes our self.
