I'll stay clear of it then. To be honest, if they're censoring anime stuff it's definitely not the site for me anyway, regardless of what other crap there may or may not be on there.

2 hours later, and already 10,000 comments. It seems the reddit admins are specifically targeting certain sub reddits and shutting them down, even though they're are much more worse subs out there. Source; http://bit.ly/1F93NvJ

I personally think it's wrong to censor free speech and then play off with 'to keep are users safe' lmao.

I don't think you know what free speech is.

What the hell is reddit? -_-

It's the best known (possibly first?) among a certain genre of sites where users submit content and vote on it. Highest voted content gets on the front page. Subreddits are basically categories.

It's an ingenious business model really. Why else do you think Google bought Youtube? Same model.

Many subreddits are actually pretty good. /r/justrolledintotheshop is hilarious even if you know little about cars, for example.

Oh, so it sounds like it works basically the same as memecentre and hugelol. Well, I'll avoid it anyway. Still don't get why google bought youtube though.

It's their right to manage the site how they want. If people don't like it they will find somewhere else to post.

Free speech has nothing to do with what you can or can not post on a private website.

Free speech is also not the same as zero censorship. There has to be a balance in all things, and the balance between free speech and censorship is constantly shifting. This is particularly true on the internet.

It's a place best to avoid. Google bought youtube for colossal, and I mean absurd levels of ad revenue. Youtube was a nice ad free video watching place until google took over.. those were the days.

The ads annoy me but at least most of the time there's a skip button. It's the new layout, the lack of a HD button and the weird comment system they have now which annoys me. I also hate the censorship problems but I think youtube had those issues to begin with.

The issue for Reddit is that everyone will find somewhere else to post their crazy shit, causing the site to die. But it is only Reddit after all.

Actually, I think Google bought YouTube because their competitive service, Google Video, wasn't as good. To put it lightly. Although, for the longest time it was the only place to watch Zeitgeist, so there's that.

freedom of speech only applies when the government is getting involved. this is a website that has it's own set of rules, terms and agreements. they can do whatever they want. this is a "club," as I like to think of it, and you joined looking to obey what they say in order to enjoy what they offer. I'm not gonna say that people have to allow certain types of speech on their website, absolutely they should feel free to trim the tree as needed to service their user base.

But one of the things I liked about Reddit was the way it was a complete free-for-all community wise, where you could create an opt-in community centred around almost any ideals. If anyone finds your speech annoying, they must have come across it somehow, so your need to be sympathetic is minimal.

There's lots of things and opinions that I find absurd and disgusting, but I'm perfectly fine with people having those views if the community is opt-in and doesnt fling poop at other communities. I like the idea where you can make a community of like minded people to discuss things that others might find abhorrent, and I dont like the idea of chasing them out of a larger website if they mind their own business.

But then, I know for a fact that plenty of people were brigading and being bastards to people and using reddit as a coordination point for their harassment that crossed community boundaries. A friend of mine from real life had a photo of her at disneyland captioned "The ham is mad she couldnt eat the penguin" and sent to her anonymously. It was an absolute dick move, and reddit would probably not want their servers paying for that.

Given there's lots of other hate-subs and "diverse" opinion subs still existing I'm not too worried about over the top censorship. Otherwise /r/theredpill would have been banned, and it is regularly voted top 10 for subs most hated.
