When you say GOAT, people think of a few things: in sports, GOATS are like Michael Jordan to Basketball, Walter Payton to Football, Babe Ruth to Baseball, and in movies people consider Citizen Kane as the GOAT, or Casablanca, or The Godfather, etc. But is there a GOAT Anime Series?

My friends have always preached that Full Metal Alchemist was that GOAT Anime, and I very much so enjoyed that series, and it's counterpart series Brotherhood. But I want to hear what the people of Crunchyroll think. What's your GOAT Anime series, if there even is one?

I like llamas though. It's all about preference, there are some that will consider SAO/Naruto/One Piece as GOAT, and others Monster/Psycho Pass/Mushishi. For me however, Anime is my lifeline and I consider every Anime that I have interest in as GOAT.

Toradora is the greatest anime of all time, although I refuse to refer to anything as "GOAT."

I must say, this is definitely the best disguised thread I have ever seen to the "Great Question": which anime stands at the very top?

My answer: none, it's an impossible question. Think about it; people would never compare Golden Time to Black Lagoon and there's a very good reason for this: they are two completely different series with a different set of merits. Both are fantastic series (in my opinion) in their respective genres and have a sizable following, but except myself and a few others, I doubt the fan-base of Black Lagoon would watch Golden Time and vice versa. Even in respective genres, some anime cannot be compared because they are just too different and have different strengths (ie comparing Nisekoi to the World God Only Knows, despite both being very much Romcom-ish).

This really applies to all art forms, whether writing, music, painting, sculpture, etc; comparing them to answer the Great Question is simply not possible without apparent bias.

And so my true answer is that the Greatest of All Anime is a question that is interchangeable and nobody is incorrect, because the Greatest Anime is whatever somebody wants it to be. Of course, some anime series are obviously better than others in a general sense, but each anime has its strengths and weaknesses and reflects the writers and animators' strengths and ability (including the ability of their studio or company -- ie Evangelion's low budget and the resulting quality of its final episodes).

However, I do believe creating lists of anime in which someone should watch before they die is certainly achievable, even if this list in definitely biased.

I also believe that some anime can be regarded as Anime Classics, or anime recognized for changing the very face of the medium or bringing something unique to the table with its sheer genius in concept, story or animation (ie Cowboy Bebop), but this is namely because these series brought something new or unique to the table, and even among Anime Classics one cannot be declared better than the others without inherent bias.

And the best part about this is that there will always be more anime on its way and more masterpieces we can witness, so we have a lot to look forward to in future days.

It is too opinion based, in sports it is easier cause they have actual stats and win/loss even that is kinda of sketchy. There is a tier list of anime for sure but I think lot of the top tiers are so close that none of them really stand out enough to be a goat.

Also no matter what, the scoring method or whatever you use will never be the same for everyone.

As mow says, sports is easier to have a GOAT. And most sports don't even have one, because they have too many positions to play or the eras are too old to accurately account for how good they are. And as mow also says, those come under scrutiny, because they're so opinion based.

You're a GOAT.
