He was 91-93 when he filmed the Hobbit Trilogy--which pretty much ties him with Estelle Winwood as one of the oldest actors to appear in a major supporting role on film--and still had presence.

He was also the last of the great "gentleman" horror actors, like Vincent Price and Peter Cushing, and came off as a warm intellectual in interviews and film-clip host duties.
(He even spoke about his lesser pre-Burton/Jackson/Lucas roles, like "Howling II", with tasteful restraint and no bitterness.)

Knighted by Prince Charles, SAS Soldier in WWII, Dracula, Count Dooku, Saruman, and more, I'm not even sad. This guy completed life. Some thought he was immortal, one things for sure, his characters will always remain.

The "voice" of Death in several Terry Pratchett adaptations. That would have made for an interesting exchange when he passed. Too bad the only one capable of writing that dialog has also recently passed.

Bummer of the year, so far. Definitely the one and only Saruman. His voice really gave of that feeling of authority that his character had. He will be missed, rest in peace.

R.I.P. Saruman/Count Dooku/Dracula. This has been a major loss for the dark side... and for everyone, really.

Heeey, for once it's a famous person I know.
