Holy geeze that score. AnimeKami, the watcher is here.

Netorare, meh emotional torment fetish, such trope! Lol :P

Tropes are almost whimsical in nature, the depth required to write characters without tropes seems to me to usually have a drier stylistic detail, which makes tropes a thing in the first place.

I think when AnimeKami says 'Maxism is intransigent', he is recognizing that characters are easily made by exaggerating traits, and that the demand is for more interesting stories, which is why he feels comfortable suggesting that we all don't watch enough anime.

I like depth in my characters. It's why I love Hunter x Hunter, Full Metal Alchemist, Monster. There is always more to a character than meets the eye.

For example, Hughes is the weakest character in FMA because he can't use alchemy, and he also puts on a goofy facade, but at the same time he is probably one of the smartest and strongest characters if you took alchemy away from everyone else. He has a lot of depth.

A trope is fine as an augmentation to a character or situation, as a spice, but a lot of writers use it as their base. They start with a popular idea and then try to change it just enough so it isn't copyright infringement.

Cliches are more popular than anything with originality. Better get use to that now or else.

I do agree. I just don't care because I don't watch harem, trash anime in the first place.

If something doesn't suit your taste, don't force yourself to watch it.... That's one of my main gripes about the whole "Rotten Tomatoes" system. Most of those critics have set criteria for what they like and if you force them into watching a show with a trope they have already considered beneath their "intellect" they give it a bad review because they are pissed about being forced to watch it in the first place. Don't be like that. Watch what you want, don't bash on material others obviously enjoy (from a popularity and sales point of view).

i could go on and on but you guys know all of them by now I'm sure. the women are worse, they usually don't even get a personality beyond the usual following
-airhead
-jealous one
-big breasted one
-"tsundere"
-loli

etc, etc, etc. those can be combined along with more but it makes for feelings of deja vu when watching different shows. especially shonen shows. that's not good in my opinion. i get that familiarity breeds comfort but this is like hollywood remake levels of bad with the unoriginality going on. you could swap out so many different main characters from animes in the past few years and put them in others shows and it would barely change a thing.

light hearted characters and shows are good and fun, in doses. you guys agree or is hestia the bestia and i should shut up? :b (or both)

-disclaimer to avoid a bit of flames: i try to watch shows even if i dislike them(looking at you again fairy tail) so that i can still talk about them with knowledge and give reasons for why i dislike them instead of bashing without giving it a chance. i don't however watch them forever if i dislike them.

Just going to say it to say it: every medium has its cliches, including regular TV shows, movies, video-games, books, music, etc. It's unavoidable because pulling originality out of your ass when there's high demand every year for new content isn't easy. In fact, pulling originality out of anywhere is a goddamn miracle in many respects because something has to come from somewhere and chances are, it's been done before.

If we were to only air original or highly acclaimed content that weren't cliches, the truth is we wouldn't see new anime for years at a time; the same thing goes for regular TV, movies, video-games, books, music, etc. It's freaking hard to create something that doesn't fall into such categories and its even rarer to find a writer good enough to pull it off effectively.

Hence, the next best thing to do when original content cannot be produced is to produce something they know will be popular: hence, that's why the anime industry and every other industry on every other medium does what it does.

As for how I deal with it, I just enjoy the journey rather than the destination (in truth, rarely do ending ever differ, for either the MC achieves their goal or does not) and give myself a variety of things to do on a variety of mediums in the meantime (watch anime one day, play a game another, do something else the next day, etc).

Not to mention, if we constantly got original, brilliant material, then we could never tell when something truly stands out and it would take away from the experience, wouldn't it?

I got bored reading by page two so I didnt read peoples arguments but this is what Im noticing lately.

the Cliche is changing recently in anime so beach scenes and hotspring episodes are slowly disappearing from popular series even though they will have them its not as in your face as before. As well as with Harem series they try to keep it fresh with a great protagonist that isnt a spineless wimp that for some unknown reason girls flock to him.

It takes what you complain about and dumps it on its head
