Post Reply Would it possibly be a good thing if humans lost the ability to reproduce?

Life is more than that, and you're not gonna find that in death. You'll be dead. Quit the Schopenhauer depressive act and realize life isn't as bad as the jaded masses make it seem.

Don't think it would benefit anyone if we all lost the ability to reproduce. I do, however, believe that not everyone should be allowed to do so.

I enjoy a lot of my life... I guess I wouldn't want it to end...

But what's the point of making more life? How do you know that your unborn child is not gonna end up burned alive and tortured by a serial killer? How do you know they're not a sociopath yet?
And in what way does it bennefit you as an individual to pointlessly carry on the existence of humanity. There's literally no purpose other than the chemicals in our brain we evolved with to give us incentive to bear kids.

Chemicals like Oxycontin allow us to love our children, but it's only an illusion created by nature to get us to keep on with the circle of life. It doesn't benefit you in a literal sense... and you may have cursed your child if they don't end up with good luck in life.

Think about it... the only species that benefits when gazelles mate are lions.

Shh, at least let him try it and find out.

So you're saying since our kids can end up dead we shouldn't have them? That's extreme, you have to just live and let life happen around you honestly.

This is just a suggestion, but you should really try thinking out loud sometimes so you can hear how ridiculous you sound. Doesn't it make you feel miserable when you keep telling yourself and making yourself believe in all these negative, hateful things? I hope you realize that at the end of the day, the problem is not really what's wrong with everything around you. It's what's wrong with how you view such things.

No, because once we lose the ability to reproduce, our race will just go extinct. What's the point then?

Life is good for fortunate people..Of course our human minds allow us to create meaning to our own lives, differently from animals.

As the top of the food change, we don't understand, however, when you look at animals, it's clear why they exist.
Flies exist for the sake of lizards and frogs... without animals that eat flies, flies would have no purpose for existing in the world.
Cows and chicken exists for the sake of carnivorous animals. Without meat eaters and omnivores, their entire existence is meaningless.

In fact, maybe other animals understand too... Perhaps the reason Panda's don't breed enough to sustain the species is because they don't really care if they become extinct... I mean they get to live in zoo's and stuff and have all the bamboo they want... What do they care if they're the last of their kind? And what do we care either? Panda's are about to transcend all other species... why do we need to get involved in nature finally giving another poor species a break

Well, y'see, that's just it, he wants to see HOW silly he can do the "deadpan" act and have us believe them like big naive puppies, that's the purpose of trolling:
"Think it would it be better if we all cut off our own heads? The hairstyling industry might complain, though."

That's because trolls don't really get out much in human society, have an objectified view of people who post on the net, and think they can "make" them post or respond to anything like puppet masters...Pull the string, pull the string!

You woke up this morning?
You not have mortar shells hitting your house?
You don't have cancer?
You don't have AIDS?
You have food to eat?
You have clean water to drink?

You're fortunate. Simple as that.

Well... how do you know you're not viewing extinction in the wrong way? You see it as some horrible thing but... look at all the extinct animals, do you think they're worse off now than they were alive?

I could understand immediate death, since that would happen to you... but why would the extinction of mankind in the future be a problem for anyone. We'd be dead anyway. In fact, that's really why I hate child birth so much... We're going to be dead. We won't have to suffer whatever hardships and whatever issues that exist in the uncertain future. And there's little we can do to stop what we don't know. The only people who have to deal with it are the next generation

For some reason I had a higher opinion of internet trolls. I would like to think that he's just not very smart since calling him a troll is a bit of an insult to the actually brilliant ones.

Yea... I'M fotunate... but if you have a kid, will you be able to gaurantee his/her life will be as fortunate? Even within places without poverty and war. You might live in a safe neighborhood, then BAM... you're kid is found mangled in a garbage dump somewhere.
In fact, if I have a kid, I'm just taking the risk of whether or not he'll develop cancer. If I impregnate a girl and she produces a kid with a horrible disfigurement and dies 2 days after being born... it would be my fault for gambling on his existence.

I don't have aids, but a future child could get aids from a blood transfusion.
If a war breaks out, the future kids would have mortar shells hitting them.
If the economy goes under, future kids would have to go without food and war
And you can never tell if your future kid would get cancer

So why not just enjoy THIS life, and forget about making new ones.

Because that's life.
