Hello everyone,

We are new to Crunchyroll but are already highly addicted to it. My wife is looking for anime to balance out the darker and more violent ones. Any anime that has a group of kids or teenagers that form friendship bonds and with or without romance. Off course the sci-fi and/or super natural element is welcome as well.

Here is a small list of shows we have watched and the ones she loved and is looking to replace:

Celestial Method
Nagi no Asukara
Ano Natsu de Matteru
The World is Still Beautiful

Just to name a few.

We would appreciate any recommendations you might have.

Thanks everyone for your help.

My default is /chihayafuru, and luckily, I think it fits your request perfectly. It's about a high school club that plays a traditional Japanese competitive card, and is structured like a sports anime. If it sounds boring, trust me it's not, and it should only take one or two episodes to see why.

This season's /sound-euphonium, about a high school band aiming for the national competition, would also match what you're looking for.

Many of the characters in /log-horizon are a bit older than what you're looking for, but it offers a "realistic" portrayal of what might happen if a video game suddenly became your reality, with community as a very prominent theme. There's also a group of younger Adventurers that get plenty of focus as well.

Like Log Horizon, /shirobako's characters are mostly working adults, trying to pursue careers in the animation industry. The 5 primary cast all met and started this journey in high school, so the bulk of the show can be seen as a continuation of that, which is why I'm including it now. Plus, you'll learn a bit about what goes into the anime production process.

/silver-spoon is about a high school kid who doesn't know what he wants to do with his life, but is looking for a change, so he enrolls in an agricultural school, but finds himself in way over his head. Ah, now I want that third season again.

/nozaki is about a stoic high school student who starts writing shoujo (girls) comics, a guy who's had no experience in love, and the weird friends he's surrounded by, either by necessity or choice. This was my favorite comedy of summer 2014.

Some others you might also enjoy:

Hopefully you find something you guys'll love.

Lots of good suggestions already; In particular, I'd like to second Toradora, My Love Story, Kimi ni Todoke, & Hanasaku Iroha.

A few other ideas:

Usagi Drop (not about a group of high school friends, but the feels don't get any better than this)
Love, Chuunibyo, & Other Delusions
The Eccentric Family (more about a family than a group of friends)
My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU
Ookami-San and Her Seven Companions (best narrator ever)

Also, if you liked Waiting in Summer, and you have access to Hulu, check out Please Teacher. Made by the same people, very similar feel to it, but just plain better (if you don't mind the old-school animation).

Oh, I just started watching Ground Control to Psychoelectric Girl and Penguin Musume Heart on Hulu and both are fun/funny to watch . Very light-hearted in both cases.

I would question your definition of feel good yes its got sadness but I define an anime on the complete journey and when the MC grows outside his comfort zone which in this series he grows leaps and bounds overcomes huge mental blocks and hardships. If you went by your logic Im guessing you didn't get anything from Clannad or Clannad after story you need to hit bottom to push off and rise up to top. Life can be harsh this anime is realistic that might draw some people in not every show has rainbows and magic

I loved your lie in april, it was amazing.

Telling someone asking for a feel good anime and giving them your lie in april is just mean. He listed a bunch of rom coms as examples of what he meant. He doesn't want his heart ripped out and his eyes to hurt from crying, he wants an easy going feel good anime.

Ok being mean not my intent-recommending a mature anime for husband and wife to watch together that was my target sorry for confusion

I'll go ahead and second Toradora, SNAFU, Kimi ni Todoke, and My Little Monster, and throw in a recommendation for Say "I love you".
