Rewatching Gundam UC all 7 episodes, great show obviously but there are all these technical details that just bug the hell out of me. I mean this is not one of those crazy science fantasy shows where science don't matter and technology is just an excuse for magic. I don't have a problem with those. I have problems with a show that is somewhat aiming to be realistic, but gets things horribly wrong, and UC series Gundam is one of those.

So I'm watching the 4th episodes where they fall back to Earth, and I get it that this is a tradition, you can't have a Gundam show without a fight on the low orbit that goes wrong and everyone just falls back down. But does anyone on the production team know anything about space travel and orbital mechanics? This is not how this works! This is not at all how any of this works!
Simply put, it is just impossible for vehicles like the RX-0 Gundam, or the mothership to fall down form a low orbit like that.

While it is true that if you decelerate in LEO (Low Earth Orbit), you will (very slowly) start to fall closer to the atmosphere, but that's based on the assumption that you can't accelerate back up! Because modern space crafts have extremely limited fuel, so they always plan optimal trajectories and do as little acceleration as possible, the goal is to just keep coasting to their destination.
Not the case with these si-fi vehicles at all. The motherships seem to have practically unlimited fuel, there is no reason it can't just accelerate back up from an orbit that's just getting a bit low. All you need to do is just keep accelerating to overcome the (very very very low because of altitude) air resistance, and eventually you get back up to speed and you're back onto LEO again, no problem!
As for the Mobile Suits, it's even easier! Because they have these massive massive thrust to weight ratios. The RX-0 even under normal form has a ridiculous thrust to weight ratio of 6! It can literally carry 4 other Mobile Suits and still fly right back up to altitude. It is unclear as to how much propellant the Mobile Suits have, but from what we can see in combat scenes. I'd say at least a few minutes on full throttle? And that is A LOT! as in, probably enough to lift off from the ground and straight into orbit A LOT. Because the Space shuttle has a TWR (variable but on average) of like 3 and it takes about 10 minutes to launch into orbit. The Unicorn has 6 it only needs to have a roughly 5 minute full throttle time to get up to orbital speeds. It should be perfectly capable of not only escaping from a descending orbit, it should be able to launch into space unassisted.
With the NT-D system activated, it's said to have an "imeasureable" thrust, and practically flies by magic, there is no way it could even start to loose altitude. It's propulsion performance is so insane it really shouldn't be concerned even slightly by orbital mechanics or gravity.

Again, this problem is like a tradition that plagues all Gundam shows. You want to have these awesome vehicles with super string si-fi propulsion performances, then don't write idiotic events like falling back down to Earth! There's this instance where this made even less sense was probably in Gundam 00 where they have Gundams again, with TWR of at least 6, because they're said to have 6 times the output of these other Mobile Suits that have at least 1 because they can fly on Earth. And they have unlimited power, and they use anti-gravity as means of propulsion (because no G-forces and no trust). I mean you have anti-gravity, which is more than 6 times as strong as Earth's surface, with an unlimited operation time. What excuses do you have to not be able to achieve orbit from the surface? These GN-Drive Gundams should be able to just casually lift their mother ship to orbit. But no, they have to have a modern style high-thrust launch, which only increases their chance of getting detected due to increased energy output.
It's just so painful to watch!!!!!

A few others I won't go into details but are also annoying af while I watch Gundam shows.....

-Those particle beams are slow AF and totally ineffective against protagonists who are just slaughtering everyone. If I were the enemy I'd bring at least 1 laser gun that can't miss. Regardless of what drawbacks it supposedly has. Like why does it matter if I can carry more shots if I can never even land a single shot!

-These people have perfected interplanetary space travel, built space cities in the asteroid belt, and made giant robots totally reliable for military use. Yet they can't make a functional missile? Like for what reason should you be able to dodge a missile? It's way smaller it's gonna have a higher thrust to weight ratio right? WHY! They don't even use flares!

-If you can pack effective beam weapons and full suit of propulsion units and some kind of strong power source into those tiny flying things. Why can't you just mount a shit load of those beam guns on your mobile suit! I mean you don't need the rockets or the power source so it'll be a lot smaller right? Or just make a laser shotgun by sticking 30 of those on your rifle? So the protagonists can't keep dodging you forever?

-If you can mount a freaking battleship cannon onto a mobile suit's rifle, that can shoot right through battleships. Why didn't you just mount some of those on your battleship!? You wouldn't have any ammo problems that way! Seems like a good idea to me!

-Why don't you just cover your ships with i-fields! I know it's expensive but it makes it invulnerable so it must be worth it!

-There is no such thing as some people being able to act totally fine under G-forces that would make others pass out of die. Unless you're just entirely made of a more rigid material, like if you're a Kryptonian. When you're under G-forces, you can try to stay conscious for longer with various techniques, equipment and maybe a stronger heart. But nobody will be able to keep a handsome face while doing it. And there is nothing high-tech about this equipment either, we have it right now it's called flight suits with built- in air pockets that inflate to push blood away from your lower body and hopefully into your brain. Why is this technology somehow lost to all but the most advanced most secret prototype high-performance mobile suit hundreds of years into the future?

-How do they keep missing! Like how would you know if someone is aiming at you and you should doge right before they fire! How do they know that! Is it because the person firing is telling them that telepathically? How about don't hire New Type pilots? Oh wait normal people pilots are idiots who can't even use the auto-aim feature... well fml...

Wow, I think it's awesome you have the knowledge to notice these things, but most of us don't. Since the makers of the anime are not scientists or astronauts, I think it's safe to assume there would be a lot of logical fallacies in the technology department. However, some of the things you said are totally true about the weapons and stuff, now that I think about it.

I occasionally find some of this stuff annoying. But, there's a reason they call it suspension of disbelief. Let's face it, we are talking about a show involving giant combat mecha, which are impractical in any environment. On the ground they would be giant targets sticking into the sky and usually stick because of their weight causing them to sink into the ground (think a 200 kil guy walking in 3-5 foot deep snow without snowshoes). In the air and space purpose built fighters would fly rings around them while blasting them to bits.

The key is to just suspend your disbelief and watch the show.

I have suspended my disbelief of reality in anime and cartoons since Robotech/Macross, Transformers, Voltron, Silverhawks and G.I.Joe. I just sit back and enjoy the ride.

Don't question things so much and you'll enjoy them a lot better :-P

Solution: Watch Planetes and Space Brothers instead.

Or play the (import-friendly) SD Gundam G Generation games and decide the battles for yourself. That is quite fun.

This is like every romance Anime.

Guy's logic is failed, he is totally oblivious, and it takes way too long for a couple to even hold hands or kiss.
